In this game the water treatment plant is pretty useless beyond the fact that it gives you increased sewage output because it practically doesn't do anything useful. It doesn't matter whether or not the Water Treatment plant reduces the pollution in the water to 15% since that water is still practically unusable. Cause if you try to pump that water again in your water pipe again, all it does is make your people sick. It doesn't matter whether that water is 100% polluted or 15% polluted since the game treats it the same essentially.

So I would like to suggest improving your pollution system this game to have something similar to Sims City 3000 / Sims City 4 where it could actually calculate the flow of water pollution in your city's pipelines. This would allow us to have a water treatment building similar to Sim City 3000 / Sim City 4 where all it would do was gradually remove pollution from water sources so that they could be reused. The building would not increase or decrease the amount of water pumped or the amount of sewage, it would just filter the water as it goes through the water system whenever it reaches one of the treatment plant nodes.

That way you can have maps that only have lakes without a flowing river and are capable of recycling used water. Or having to worry about sucking a river dry and not being able to reuse the water that you're dumping back out.

Just in case what I said wasn't very clear, I made this post in another thread nearly a year ago explaining it.

Think of it like this.

How the game works at the moment
  1. Water goes through the pump, which sucks in the water, regardless whether its clean or polluted.
  2. The water goes to your people, who then pollute it.
  3. The polluted water is vented out of your sewage pipe

What I want to see is

Scenario #1 Water treatment right after pump.
  1. Water goes through the pump, which sucks in the water, regardless whether its clean or polluted.
  2. The water will then go into a water treatment node to clean the water before it goes to your people. (Which doesn't produce water for usage, but rather just filters it as it passing along).
  3. The clean water goes to your people, who then pollute it.
  4. The polluted water is vented out of your sewage pipe.
Scenario #2 Water treatment right before draining.
  1. Water goes through the pump, which sucks in the water, if you placed it upstream from the pollution.
  2. The clean water goes to your people, who then pollute it.
  3. The polluted water will then go into a water treatment node to clean the water before it goes to the sewage pipe. (Which doesn't produce for water usage, but rather just filters it as it passing along).
  4. The clean water is vented out of your sewage pipe.
Scenario #3 Water treatment right after pumping and draining.
  4. The polluted water will then go into a water treatment node to clean the water before it goes to the sewage pipe. (Which doesn't produce for water usage, but rather just filters it as it passing along).
  5. The clean water is vented out of your sewage pipe.
Scenario #4 Water treatment with no usage.
  1. Water goes through the pump, which sucks in polluted water.
  2. The polluted water will then go into a water treatment node to clean the water before it goes to the sewage pipe. (Which doesn't produce for water usage, but rather just filters it as it passing along).
  3. The clean water is vented out of your sewage pipe.

Scenarios 3 and 4 actively sucks in dirty water, and cleans it before drainage in an actual water filtration loop which is realistic and practical. Unlike your mods and most of the mods in the workshop that just magically have sewage drainage pipes with no pollution, because they don't actually filter the dirty water in the system. They just make it disappear at the ending node instead of cleaning it early on.

Surely something like this can implemented right? Since you can treat pollution flow within the water pipe system like the traffic system logic in the game, and chose where pollution goes and where it exists?
