Polls

This is something that just came to me, why are there not/why cant we create/why dont the devs create polls on this forum? I see lots of good discussion and good ideas on this forum, with lots of common opinions. So what's with the lack of polls? You could restrict them to owners of their respective game, there's already the registration system.

It seems like a pretty clear way to gauge peoples opinions about things. I think im speaking for a few people when i say this forum needs polls!

Please don't tell me there already are polls and i'm just THAT retarded.

Devs have run the occasional poll, there was one for an EU4 DLC/patch last year for instance.

Poll threads can only be created by the forum moderators. You have to PM one and justify why it needs to be a poll.

I forget now what response I was given before many years past, I think it was the quantity of polls being run but I am probably remembering it wrong.

In a forum just for polls, it might work though.

why did this thread get moved to somewhere so dead? I started in the main section, where people will actually read it and discuss it. Nobody comes to this section of the forums, at least judging from the activity that's what it seems like. I mean, i dont work for paradox, so i can't determine where this technically belongs, but i dont need help, im not having issues, and i don't have any questions regarding rules... I was just looking to discuss something with some like-minded people. I know that's technically still possible in this location, I just feel like the move was unwarranted, because you essentially just killed a thread by moving it to somewhere it doesn't apply to. I dont see how polls have anything to do with help, issues, or rules. Also given every other type of topic i've seen in the main section, moving this one seems... some word that's escaping me, but you know what im saying.

You asked about the forum's policies on creating polls, this is the right place for that. If you want a more general chat about the topic, the OT forum would be the place.

Beside that I personally believe that polls limit creativity. Why? Because you give a set of pre-defined answers, and 90% of the people that vote in that poll, will not post a reply. If you want to have a suggestion thread or something similar to that, running a poll imho is a very bad idea unless your goal is to give a pre-defined set of answers (aka you came up with some concepts and you want to make sure people only vote for one of these).

Discussion threads, or opinion threads are best without polls. It forces people to post, yes not everybody will post but at least more people will post than there would be when there was a poll included. Why make a post if you gave 'your opinion' by clicking a button? It allows creative discussions and people can express their opinions better, they are 'forced' to think about it and thus come up with more interesting answers

Note that this is my personal view on the matter, I cannot speak for the company/staff as a whole.

Staff Probably moved it here, since the one guy that can change that policy, reads every single post in this forum and they know that.
So any comment on this subject is ultimately really only aimed at me, unless you are just venting.
