welcome Magister Populi. :)

I wonder if that will be possible. By symetry, could we have similar functions or specific rules in Carthage, Greece, Gaul or the Seleucid Empire ? I've some doubts but I could be easyly and pleasantly surprised :)

I think this is the point, to make totally different the management of republics, polis, talasocracies, kingdoms, confederated tribes,...
dunno the expectations of other fans but myself I would be (very) disapointed if we just get an EU3 cloned into 280BC in most aspects.

Carthage-> merchant republic?

Ancient Greece of the era: a. Macedonia (Monarchy)
b.Epirrus (monarchy)
c. The rest was spilt into two confederacies, i
am not sure how their politics should work.
These two "states" were in constant fighting
against each other or together against the
macedonians. Until Romans 'pacified' macedonia,
of course...

Gaul tribal monarchy?

Seleucid absolute monarchy
Ptolemaic Egypt absolute monarchy

And i shouldn't forget the kingdom of pergamos

forget a "gaul" faction.. the dozens of tribes should be represented, with the ability through events after diplomacy or war to form tribal confederations like the aeudi or arverni.

I doubt it—roman politics were mind numbingly complex.

True, But this game will need more than aeudi or arverni to make.
Plus Gaul should be able to be formed, but this is propably ahistorical (at this time at least, there were a gaul nation long time before Rome was even made)

Although 'Pax Romana' always seemed quite bugged to me, it was fun to play merely due to the nice political system of election, political agendas and so on.
If something similar could be integrated into 'Rome', it would not only bring the game beyond a typical wargame, but could already make 2008 a nice year!! :D

I am sure there will be some implementation of Roman domestic politics, question is how detailed it will be. I am hoping very detailed. ;)

I'd love to see a Roman player control a specific dynasty CK style, with election events and office traits (modified by friends, rivals, lieges, clients, marriages, assassinations, etc), but with the catch that you could only control provinces and recruitment when you had the proconsul or consul traits. Of course, you could always hire mercenaries if you had the money

Even if Rome doesn't have this, Ihave no doubt the EB guys will be able to mod it in. I mean, they got it going great in RTW's engine, so imagine what they can tune a Pdox one to do...

Havent tried EB, only vanilla RTW, but it was sort of implemented in the game from the start.

I am new to the paradox line of games, but quickly becoming a fanatical supporter. :)

Much of my previous experience in games lay heavily with the Roman era theme, and having studied it much in college, I'm thrilled they have decided to create a Roman era EU.

One thing I must STRONGLY beg and plead for is the inclusion of Roman politics. Few games try, but its form has a great potential for a lot of fun. That is the only downfall in general for the Rome Total War series, the fact that it hardly attends to such a vital aspect of the Roman people.

Roman politics could be indeed complex, but naturally a game system can cut corners and make assumptions to make a fun and immersive political system within the game.

What I would propose is almost a game within a game. For instance, the greater game will be as EUIII with the country interactions, but within the Roman faction is a political game much like the greater, but instead you are dealing with political factions vying for power.

This will help even the game difficulty, because eventually Romans will easily find themselves in a position of predominant power and conquest will be easy, if the game is historically accurate. The only true tests to Rome's existence came early in it's history, where later and for the bulk of it's history Rome's main enemy were its own politicians.

There is such a fertile ground here for one of the most fascinating political epics in history, don't waste the opportunity by simply making an EU clone!

If anyone can help this newb find a way to be a part of the beta, and if lucky enough, to help with brainstorming on its development, please let me know.

I hope so, if Paradox decides to just go the country route it would be a huge missed opportunity imho. Rome was not a single unified nation ruled by the iron hand of the god-king player #3479, the iconic moments of Rome were the inter-factional struggles and familial-based politics. If even CA could understand that a divided Rome was more fun then letting the player rule everything by himself, I hope paradox finds the same.
