I have always spent the VAST majority of my time on the political map mode, however with EUIV I have been trying to use the terrain one more often even though I often have to go to political for practical reasons.
The terrain map is so pretty in EUIV and I quite enjoy being zoomed in looking at it, it makes me feel a little more connected to the country which is nice as I already feel EUIV feels very disconnected. The thought of being able to readily see my borders/national outline ON the terrain map sounds quite appealing to me.

I liked how borders were made in Unity of Command - it was perfectly possible to see terrain while knowing the ownership of it. I also liked how map ownership changed rapidly, creating encirclements and counter-encirclements, without the need of going from one empty province to another, which I find somewhat silly most of the time. I mean, there were many situations where Soviet forces were behind the advancing Germans forces and had to fall back through enemy-controller area. Enemy didn't have enough forces to form solid front and many units slipped through to their own lines.

The neon political map we saw in the video was, sorry for the bluntness, atrocious IMO, it looked like supreme ruler from afar.

The closer you are to a real map, the better, frankly.

Yeah, I'd rather just have political and terrain seperated.
Perhaps you can add a third mapmode mixing it or something, or an checkbox in the options menu.

Terrain mapmode always drains my FPS, which I hate. (I don't have that good of a PC)

This is bad news for me, i would like map tabs.

BUT i'm not saying anything before the game is out. But if lots of people proves to be against it, i'm pretty sure it will be released as a DLC that cost money with other stuff and that would be annoying. I remember how we had to pay to see country names on the map in Hoi3.

I much prefer the borders to be clearly visible in terrain mode. What I've seen so far looks good and a huge improvement. It does have a sort of high tech feel to it though and I can sort of understand people not appreciating that look even if I don't share their distaste but I personally feel an authentic graphical look would mean less functionality. For example, a truly authentic look would require doing away with all the UI and having a bunch of generals crowded around a table with miniatures on ugly/plain hand drawn maps (you'd definitely need more than one too). The more authentic it is the more impractical it is, so it's a matter of compromise, a nice 3d map with clearly visible borders isn't too much of one for me personally.

Reason they want to mix them together :)

Paradox should go for a number of different map modes that actually look like maps but they wont and instead for some strange reason they will combine different maps together creating a green grey muddle with fluorescent edges.

You can already see that it appears to be an adaptation of the EUIV map with someone deciding that a liberal coating of one colour was perfect.

Even if it's going to be like that, I'm fine with it. It's better than nothing, however I would REALLY like a specific political map mode. Will it be possible to edit the point you can zoom out to before it switches to political?

What did you not like with the political map? It looked quite cool to me, apart from the borders. The ability to see terrain on political mapmode is great.
