So, I was thinking about playing Poland and I came out with an idea.

Instead of rushing for westernization, maybe it's better to rush for Free Trade? There are at least two good things that comes out from this move.

1. We can survive Reformation being at -1 Inn/Narr instead of -3 which is a bit easier.
2. Penalty for Oriental tech. is just 15% tech cost. so I think trading in europe will fully cover this penalty and give much more than that. Don't you think?
3. Hussars. Weak, but still fun aspect of having them.

So after rushing for +5 Free Trade I can start moving into centralization and then two steps into innovative (probably just by Patron of Arts). Reformation probably end by then and I will get fair income from trade so getting back stab levels will be faster.

Well I can't start trade until I don't get decent trade chance (Poland start with quite low trade chance) so I can eat everything I want before I start trading for serious.

lol my first response when seeing the title was Iwanow, too. Then I remembered he got banned.

Honestly, if you don't plan on getting trade NIs, full plutocracy and trade advisers, just join a trade league and your compete chance won't fall behind the other nations.

Then you can focus your sliders, NIs, and advisers on more military advantages. You'll have an easier time fighting against GH, BWB, and blobhemia on all sides.

Besides, if you ever plan on dominating Europe or owning multiple CoTs yourself, mercantilism is a better idea.

Probably the one stated in http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...u-suck-Why&p=14596368&viewfull=1#post14596368

Moderation actions shouldn't be discussed though, but there are a funny amount of threads derailed because of this one question

P.S. The mods are watching! Always!

Yes Iwanow is my first thought too. :p

But anyhow, Pewt and Elycion raped a bunch of people with a mega Poland in a recent MP game (and getting Burka + Alfonso to ragequit). Maybe the OP should PM them for tips.

here's my petty little advice:

While I admire free trade possibilities, it hinders a lot your expansion, as infamy is a killer for free trade. Still, it can be a good idea... i mean, if you're looking for an historical poland, you only need to eat the teutonic order, as normally, you shall inherit Lithuania one day or another. so by the time you reach +3 free trade, you should be done with your expansion plans... Still, westernization is a must, and apart if you want to convert to prostestant or reformed, lacking missionaries for 100 years (between 1450 and 1550) is no big deal.
Why is westernization so necessary? not because you may fall behind in technology (with free trade, I hardly believe you would), but because you just need that military modernization: oriental group has, by far, the worst units in-game. Your cavalry that should be your strong point, is only better to westerners up until level 22... Cossacks might be prestigious, but they're just a joke. In comparison, i'd rather prefer to keep my military if I was indian or chinese, as those two really have destructive cavalry "early" in game (lvl 15 and 23 if i remember well)

So yeah, even if you're a behemoth, once someone reach the dutch mauricians, you're like deadmeat, those would have an overwhelming 3 to 1 advantages agaisnt yours units, whatever they might be, so any war would prove being really really hard.

So here are the sliders i'd move first:
1)Centralization
2)free-trade, but only if i plan to stay midly peaceful.
3)innovative for westernization

While I admire free trade possibilities, it hinders a lot your expansion,
It only restricts the size of expansion "bursts", not the rate of expansion. In SP, 10 infamy is perfectly manageable as a Free Trade nation.
