Poland into HRE?

Been trying to get a Poland game going in which I'd get myself into the HRE. I tried giving all my provinces to Mazovia and liberating an Orthodox vassal but even reduced as an OPM, I'm still "too large to join the Empire". Half province minor? I guess the "joining" takes into account your vassals too.

Any tips or strategies on a quick and efficient way of doing this?

IIRC, you want to sell to Lithuania, as PU partner BT isn't accounted for.

You need around 20-25ish BT with accompanying near-perfect relations with Austria. Vassal BT counts at whatever % you tax them, PU counts for nothing (since you don't tax them obv).

Yep. Also, you'll get that land back later 'for free' and with no autonomy when you form the Commonwealth, as opposed to the work that would go into annexing a large subject 'by hand'.

Just be careful not to sell to Lithuania any provinces you need to form the Commonwealth!

The other way in is to become the Emperor.

Change your government type. You can do it with Kraków & 1 other province.

Alternatively you can culture shift into Prussian, sell off some BT, join, empire, then sell off enough BT to go back to polish.

It's simple to do. You will sell your non polish lands to Lithuania. You will then keep 27 bt worth of polish lands (3 or 4 of them), sell the rest to Mazovia. Make Mazovia into a march and then you will need a 200 rep with Austria.

No need to c-shift back to Polish, unless you love those 'Sejm cripples the country' events.

If you are going to culture shift though, I think it's easier to sell provinces, join HRE, vassalise/annex Teutonic Order, c-shift. Otherwise you end up waiting too long to absorb enough provinces to shift, and by the time you do, you still have to sell off a lot of stuff, and your freedom to sell stuff is reduced (e.g. selling Danzig, Krakow or Marienburg to Lithuania is a no-no).

I prefer doing the despotic monarchy route.

Sell Orthodox provinces to Moldavia.
Sell Polish Provinces to Mazovia.
Become despotic Monarchy.
Join empire.
Form union.

You'll have to pay in dip points to get the lands back, but you'll have them back before Adm 10.
Furthermore, you'll only need Danzig to culture shift to Prussian.
