Well, we all know the AI acts pretty damn retarded at times (hard to make it smart in such a complex game), but apparently it acts even dumber when you're not looking.
I'm playing as Bahmanis, far from Europe, so there is fog of war over there, and while doing my periodical checks on what crazy things the AI is doing, I saw that Riga was crushing Poland in a war alone while also holding a recent Prussia invasion, even though Riga had an army of 20k (FL of 14) and Poland had one of 110k with FL of 77.
Seeing that Riga was the only European nation that was friendly to me, I decide to ally them hoping to get a call to arms to see the battles that made up for that warscore. This allowed me to look at the war screen and take a look at the previous battles. Turns out Poland was sending stacks of 5k one at a time, and after getting crushed 5 times they started sending 10k stacks one a time, that got crushed around 11 times.
However, once I allied Riga and got vision of the area, Poland sent a 70k stack and crushed them. It seems as if the AI only acts smart when you're looking at it
