Well, we all know the AI acts pretty damn retarded at times (hard to make it smart in such a complex game), but apparently it acts even dumber when you're not looking.
I'm playing as Bahmanis, far from Europe, so there is fog of war over there, and while doing my periodical checks on what crazy things the AI is doing, I saw that Riga was crushing Poland in a war alone while also holding a recent Prussia invasion, even though Riga had an army of 20k (FL of 14) and Poland had one of 110k with FL of 77.

Mkp4Fol.png

Seeing that Riga was the only European nation that was friendly to me, I decide to ally them hoping to get a call to arms to see the battles that made up for that warscore. This allowed me to look at the war screen and take a look at the previous battles. Turns out Poland was sending stacks of 5k one at a time, and after getting crushed 5 times they started sending 10k stacks one a time, that got crushed around 11 times.

However, once I allied Riga and got vision of the area, Poland sent a 70k stack and crushed them. It seems as if the AI only acts smart when you're looking at it

I'm not sure if it's the same problem, but Wiz said there is a known problem with AI armies freezing up. The problem has been addressed in house and a fix should be in the 1.9 patch.

Lord knows when that will be.

Well, I looked deeper into it during the game, and turns out Poland had no military access from either Prussia or Russia (the 2 countries surrounding Riga), so the only way they could enter Riga is by ship. They also had 11 transports and turns out they sent exactly 10780 troops 11 times, so they were obviously using those 11 transports. Oddly enough, Poland now suddenly has 110k soldiers in Riga and I have no idea where they came from since they still don't have military access and it would've taken them much longer to move all those troops by sea

Through Sweden perhaps? Or they might be in another war that gives them access somehow?

Nope, they couldn't get to Sweden either. Odd. Anyways, they weren't being as dumb as I first thought when I posted this (although doing amphibious assaults with 11k troops against 20k is still pretty dumb even for AI standards).

Do different countries actually have different AI's, or do people just refer to them as such because some nations tend to act retarded more often than others because of location/national ideas/etc?

The AI itself seems to be the same but there are certain setups and situations the AI will react better in then others.

Also it is just me or does Poland lose it's union with Lithuania a lot when they AI runs Poland.

As far as I know and have seen, the every country has the same "base" AI, but it receives modifiers depending on the ideas/location/religion/etc. For wars it seems to be usually the same and pretty dumb, but I have seen Russia fight me with attrition (had 70% of their manpower left, didn't even use half of their FL and didn't fight me). So maybe some countries do get specific AIs.

As for Poland usually losing the PU, I have noticed the same, and even if it doesn't lose it, the Commonwealth normally collapses too. I have only seen it survive 1/10

I had a similar problem with France

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...I-armies-idle-on-foreign-territory-during-war

There is something wrong with military access, and treaties annuling military access with a country when AI armies are located there.

Had the same problem with my allies in my Byz campaign while reconquering Greece: my fleets hold straights in Marmara Sea, while in Anatolia stand perfectly visible ~ 60k angry Turks, waiting for action and sharping their blades. Then comes a combined Polish-Moldavian stack, crosses the straight and sieges Optimatoi... Happy Ottos doomstack slaughters them and... another 10k stack from Poland\Lithuania arrives just to be slaughtered by perfectly visible Ottos army...
