Hi all,

while it was easy to beat Germany as Poland in vanilla and Mod34 without cheats and gamey tactics, it seems impossible with IC 1.03 beta. Admittedly, I`m a lousy player.

I`d be grateful for any advice on stopping/beating Germany now, on ARMA IC 1.03. No cheating, exploits, gamey tactics(like buying Guadalcanal from UK and sitting it out). Early attack on Lithuania is IMO acceptable considering the very hostile relations between these countries.

Hi slate,

I suspect your command structure suffers from heavy overstacking. Any division over the limit is practically useless, just "moving target" practice for the Poles.

HI OT, If i follow you here, you have been playing IC 1.02 over Arm and have now installed and play IC 1.03 beta9 over Arm and Germ beats poland, you.

That is the way it should be, but i think the question should be on what combat parameters have the Devs changed from 1.02 to 1.03?

I plowed through Poland as Germany, no problem. i did notice a lot of polish divs moving towards koinegburg instead of protecting warsaw. i had not seen that in 1.02.

I have also noticed that retreating divs restart combat on every new day and that you can over run divs and you no longer need to encircle divs to destroy them. i also used dive bombers to destroy retreating divs. in 1.02. If this is happening then german armor just need to move 2 prov. in and your divs. will disappear. i have not played much with IC 1.03 beta 9 and have not att. France yet. so not sure if this is still the case. If this is still the case then i vote for it to be removed, at least an option in the start up screen to have or not to hve it.

If this is happening in your game then i don't think there is anything you can do, tactics or strategy wise, your units will be overrun. Maybe put the bulk of your divs at least 2 provs behind the front line.

Hi Dr.,

you say: "That is the way it should be, but i think the question should be on what combat parameters have the Devs changed from 1.02 to 1.03?"

I beg to differ, actually it`s how it was but it was not given. One can argue, realistically(but not here), that it was possible to achieve a stalemate where Ger would have to constantly redeploy troops against a French advance and back again to Poland who in the meantime would recover some ground. Stalin attacked Poland after lots of pressure from Adolf(when Germ began to run out of steam abt. 8-9 Sept) and only after he found that the French stopped advancing. IIRC the german stock of lubricants would last for abt. 8 weeks war consumption when the balloon went up 1 Sept 1939.

Anyway, AFAIU a balanced game means, by definition, that any country is able to win/survive with the right approach. In IC I`ve seen Albania get a WP from Italy, so...

Poland in 39

At the risk of making some enemies...

Poles did not expect to be left hung our to dry by FR and UK but this is how it went. Polish strategic idea was bad--forward defence, they were 3/4 enveloped on day 1. They knew as much but relied on support from the West which they didn't get. Polish army was antique in eqpt and doctrine, great for pushing around Soviet militia in 1920 but opposing tanks with cavalry was never going to be a winning play. Above all and if nothing else, landline based comms was never going to hold up and for the same reason FR didn't make it eight months later--you cannot fight against a blitzkrieg with WWI comms. AFAIK nothing like a tactical radio net was available to the Poles.

What we fail to realise now is just how revolutionary the IDEAS behind blitzkrieg were. Even though GE eqpt and soldiers were not greatly better and in some cases worse than anyone else's in 39/40/41, they made the whole package work and it took years for those who survived the initial onslaught to catch up. Sure these ideas had been knocking around for 10 years or more, but military establishments are conservative, FR UK and poland especially so because at the last at bat they won (or at least forced a draw, which for poland vs. russia amounts to the same thing) and 'it wasn't broken' or so they thought...

Even superhuman bravery cannot make up for outdated ideas, low technology and poor strategy--true then and still true now. Why anyone wants or expects poland to do OK in 1939 is beyond me. Is this supposed to be a simulation or fantasy? In which case give Poland +20 dragons and I take it all back.

Hi all,

Well, neither HoI series or IC are WWII simulators, there is no need for such. Most people know how that war went. For those who don`t there are books enough on the subject.

IC is a grand strategy GAME where the player should be able to change history to his liking, that`s where the game balance comes in.
