Poland 1933-1963: First to Fight

Hello and welcome to the forum page of the mini-mod "Poland 1933-1963: First to Fight". This mod aims at adding new events, ministers, leaders and tech teams for the Poland and also adding possible outcomes of certain events. What will this mod include?

Part 1
  • New events, covering the 1933-1939 period of Polish history
  • Reworked Polish goverment, with accurate ministers and changes of the Polish goverment
  • New Polish tech teams
  • Possible early alternate history WWII decisions/events, alliances and others
  • New polish units such as: the KOP (Korpus Ochrony Pogranicza) and polish cavalry (Ułani)
Part 2
  • New events, covering the 1939-1945 period
  • Reworked Polish goverment, with accurate ministers and changes of the Polish goverment
  • The Polish Goverement-in-exile (if will be possible)
  • Different types of goverements for different outcomes of the war
Part 3
  • New events, covering the 1945-1963 period
  • Reworked Polish goverment, with accurate ministers and changes of the Polish goverment
  • New possible WW3 scenarios, starting in Poland

I have began working on the mod few weeks ago and I am really invested. I'd say my modding skills aren't l33t or 420pr0, but I know my stuff. I have worked on various "fun mods" that I have never released publicly, but I've decided to finally focus on one project and finish it through. I can't say how long the development will take before Part 1 will be released (propably a few weeks from now on tho') but I hope to get all the parts released before the end of this year. I have a bit of "boredom time" in which I am not doing anything, so I will be dedicating that time to work on the mod. Why make the mod? I was very annoyed that I could never play as Poland in any HoI game, because the outcome was always obvious. You were going to get smashed into the dirt by superior German forces and then attacked by the Soviet Union from the east. So here's hoping my mod will make the game a bit harder for German/Soviet players and a bit more interesting for Poland players.

A small update of what I've been doing today.

They aren't the best, but hey! Rome wasn't built in one day. I thought I'd make some to see how do you actually make icons. It's not really hard, but what's hard is to judge if it's going to look too small, too big or too pixely. If you have any good drawings of polish uniforms, send them to via PM! I will be glad for them and will deffo include you in some credits. :D

Next we have techteams! I have fixed my techteam problem with a very stupid and obvious solution. Apparently you just need to press enter after you finish making the techteam. :huh:

The skill levels will surely get tweaked, same for components. I am going to include the most important ones that weren't featured in DH. Also, I have fixed the PZL and added "Fighter Design" for them. No idea why they didn't have it. They made the famous PZL P.11, after all!

Now, moving on to new events.

This is my first try at making a persistent event. The idea behind is that you will gain 150 money every year, in march. This is supposted to simulate the fact, that Gdynia was becomming more important than Danzig, at one point. I've read that it even managed to surpass some German ports!

This event will lead to a chain of events, revolving around your actions as the polish state. You will have a few options on how to cope with the crisis.

This is the last event that I have made today, concerning the Polish-German Customs War. For now, it's an embargo cause I haven't figured out really how to simulate this sort of situation in the game world.

Anyways, I have a question for you guys:

1. Would you rather prefer to have more choices over domestic and foreign policies, or rather just see an accurate represantation of the actual domestic/foreign policies without any alternate history choices?

I wonder, is it possible to set Off-map VPs and assign them to a country so they can still exist without any territory on the map?

And yeah, I have thought about it and I will go for an approach with multiple choices, historical and ahistorical. I have began working on an even chain concerning the Polish Army and its modernization and it should be finished tomorrow. I'll make sure to keep you guys updated on the progress!

Sorry that I haven't been updating too much. There's lots of working going on the mod and I just don't want to show events only. I am hoping to give you guys an update on the mod in 2-3 days. Now... there's something important that I wanted to write about.

It's 1st of September today. I don't really know what to write about it. It's an important date for me but not only for me. Many lives were changed due to this date. I was thinking of giving you guys a rundown of the entire campaign, but you can find that pretty much everywhere. Everyone keeps saying how we should have done that or that. These are all interesting scenarios, but I like to focus on what actually happened. So I hope that my mod will be able to focus on what actually happened and maybe even help people learn about the polish history and understand. Understand that it's not only about dates, numbers and statistics. That a big part of our culture, our heritage was destroyed in the process. And that this war had long term concequences for later generations. And I think that's my main motivation behind making of this mod. It's a weird feeling of nostalgia after something I have never even experienced! D:

Except the free_money command is discouraged in DHF (unless you add an event to remove it with well thought out triggers), so if you wanted the mod to be merged into DHF, be careful about that.

Interested in this as well. Country improvement packs are always great. :)

Remember to use triggers for events, to take into account of the situation in the game.

Oh my god, I have just barely had enough time to write this. So, a couple of things concerning this mod. It is not a dead project -at all-. While I have been partially working on it, mostly I have been researching lots and I mean lots of stuff. Books, movies, articles, anything I could get my hands on to try and replicate some major events in the mod.

I also have changed my mind about the entire alternate path to war scenario, realizing it would take a huge ammount of skill to make (and sadly I am not that skilled with event chains/event triggering). I am thinking about more depth to the domestic fights going on in Poland - especially concerning minorities and political parties.

I am really sorry that I didn't update this thread. One major thing happened - school. I became so worked up with school that when I finally finished all my work for one day, I just didn't have any will or energy to work on the mod. I mostly work on it now on weekends, making adjustments, writting new events and making GFX. I am still trying to understand adding in units to the game. It seems to work sometimes and sometimes it doesn't.

Overall, yes I am still working on the mod. I am just sad that I wasn't able to achieve the end of 2014 date that I have set for myself. I'll try to find more time to work on this as this is a big deal for me!
