It's a balance improvement/bug fix.

Chapter One

Spain is in a pickle in 1936. In fact, I have never seen the AI not surrender to the Carlists, which is odd because that's completely ahistorical. It's also pretty easy, assuming you can keep your militancy low. Once you re-stabilize your country, you can start colonizing Asia and Africa, and maybe even form Iberia.

Six21Am.jpg

Spain's starting position is poor in general. After a year or so, she'll drop from Great Power status. Quite appropriately, of course. Her only retained colonies are Cuba, the Philippines and Puerto Rico. The economy and industry are awful-- in fact, the economy can't even support the starting armies and navy.

AhC3MEJ.png

In fact, there aren't even capitalists in Spain.

l1EmRbM.png

I kick off the First Carlist War. As the title suggests, we are anti-Carlist. To know what a Carlist is, you need to know a bit of history. When king Ferdinand died, his wife, Maria Cristina, became Queen Regent for their daughter, Isabella II. However, Carlos V, Ferdinand's brother, thought he should be king. Other than that, the Carlists advocated for traditionalism and were popular with the Basques and Catalans, as they wanted stronger local governments. They're the bad guys, basically.

UxGFOPB.jpg

I send my armies to destroy the Carlists. Like I said, really easy stuff.

Easy wins.

And rounding up the last rebel-occupied provinces.

Suscribed! I am eager to see what you can do with Spain.

BTW, Liberals surrendering to the Carlists is far from being "completely ahistorical". In fact, Charles stood with two armies in front of and undefended Madrid in 1838. But it is true that having this happen always is too much.

Second BTW, what mod are you using?

You know, this Carlist rebellion wouldn't have happened in the first place if Spain had stuck with the Habsburgs. To be fair, other nasty things probably would've happened.

Anyways, I'd say I personally see Spain go Carlist only about 50% of the time, but their drop out of even secondary power status is assured without human intervention. Anti-Carlist Spain has a reasonably constitutional monarchy, for better or worse, and it's in a good position to form a second empire to rival the first. Educate your populace, and your rise will be as meteoric as AI Spain's collapse is disastrous.

It was, as far I am concerned, he simply fled. Yes, is that stupid. Anyway, this is not the History forum, so better stop here this talk and crush some Carlists (and French)!

Are the both mods compatible without major workarounds?

Divided by Zero comes with Pop Demand Mod already, so there's no need to select both. ;)

Chapter Two

jh8krnl.jpg

The Carlists have returned! We choose to fight on, of course. I ended up letting them occupy most of my northeast, so they would end up reducing its army to half its original size, due to attrition. The AI, as you can tell, is really good. After two battles, the first a loss (-6,000 to -16,000) and the second a win (-1,485 to -11,164), their army is gone.

SGXMilV.png

In fear of an even larger Carlist rebellion, I chose to not sell off church land. I think at the time of this screenshot, I had around 150k Carlists that could potentially rise.

eJp4xId.png

The time has finally come. Spain is no longer considered a Great Power. We will fix this in time.

bb1OWuL.png

We begin justifying war with Morocco. It is never discovered, so I take 0 infamy. You may be thinking that it's not really a good time for war, seeing as the Carlists could rise at any moment. Morocco's armies are awful though, and if they attack in my land I won't take awful attrition.

RQzns3q.png

I obliterate the bulk of their army in one battle, and attack the rest of their armies in a series of 1vs.18 battles. I eventually occupy my war goal and successfully win Moroccan al Rif.

Qnw4Fgv.jpg

France seems to be building a scarily large army, though. Better stay friendly with them.

Spain at least has the advantage of only really needing to fear France and, to a lesser extent, the UK because of its' location so stay friendly with France as you yourself have said :)

This is looking pretty good so far.

I'm interested to see what your long-term goals will be. I assume a liberal state that moves to socialism down the road?

Will you take colonies from Africa and the uncivs, or will you look to restore previously held colonies in South and / or Latin America?

Keep up the good work.

Nice seeing you here. ;) I'll likely go for a liberal empire not unlike France's and Britain's. Latin America seems untouchable at this moment, but I'll probably be taking the West Indies.

Chapter Three

MmsOOk4.png
I manage to clam together enough Liberals in the upper house to outlaw slavery. Truly a barbaric practice, not suitable for a civilized nation like ours.

rTYHwCx.png
Speaking of barbarism, I begin fabricating a Casus Belli on Sulawesi. They have delicious tropical wood, dye, and coal. The natives will be better off under Spanish rule, anyways.

R4rS4Mt.png
I declare a quick war and send my small army in the Philippines to take the land. They met little resistance and I was able to establish a presence in Indonesia.

Kj2Z4un.png
svQnIan.png
Brazil offers me an alliance. I don't see any negative to it, so I accept. Britain does soon after, and my accepting has eliminated any chance of staying friendly with France.

jmOKJyo.png

KI6mw7G.png
I gain a bunch of Liberals in the upper house, as well as Plurality. This gives me yet another reform, where I choose free press.

mHWw6hd.png
We finish a very important tech, especially for the education efficiency. All the military bonuses are good too.

QM9svI7.png
Tensions are strained between the United States and I as they attempt a Coup in Cuba. This, likely, will not be the last of America's ambitions in Cuba.
