Okay, welcome to my 1944 Nationalist Spain AAR. I didn't plan this to be an AAR from the start, although I made a few screenshots, so I am going to make to make the opening post a flashback. For those with an eye for detail, it is possible you find a continuity error, as my game crashed after I made the first screenshot, and had to replay a month, leading to a completly different situation in Europe.
Madrid, 2 February 1945
Throughout Madrid, celebrations were ongoing as Franco announced the start of the Alliance of Fascist Nations, uniting the great nations of Argentina, Portugal and Spain into one alliance. Fascist Heroes such as Mussolini and Petain, saved from allied and communist persecution by the Spanish, sat alongside Ramirez, Salazar and Franco, seeing the Spanish Army parade through Madrid.
As they turned inside, there were various matters at hand. Mussolini smiled as he saw Franco, 'it was a smart move of you not get involved with the Austrian. I stand in your debt, I should have foreseen Hitlers ultimate failure.' Franco thought about how, in Mussolini terms this was a grand display of modesty, and took it for granted. Petain was silent, and Franco knew what they were thinking 'to both of you, I know you are proud of your land, and would love to get back to controlling it, however I am under the impression that it would be for the best if these lands remain part of my Spain, it will be easier to defend democracy united.'
Greater Spain as it reached it's full extent in September of 1944
The men grumbled, but knew they had no other choice but to accept. An Italian and French Rumpstate was no option. And Franco continued 'the Spanish people are happy to welcome such great cities as Lyon, Marseilles, Nice, Genoa and Turin into their nation.' It left his mouth with a bit of distaste, the great cities of Milan and Bordeaux had been snatched right before his nose by the Allied pigs, with Spanish forces being mere hours late. The taunt mentioned by that by some American Pig about Siesta's being to blame wouldn't improve Spanish-Allied relations.
Despite that, the Spanish gains were grand. As the Allied stormed the beaches of Normandy, Spanish forces crossed the Pyrenees into France. For most of the campaign the only opposition encountered were those forces withdrawing from the Allies, only in Italy the first organized resistance was established, and by then the Reich was in a free fall, and Hitler had killed himself in a Bunker in Berlin. Throughout the Fascist Parties in the World, Franco's move was now being praised as the turning-around of Fascism, and Fascist distanced themselves from Hitler, proclaiming that Hitler was not a Fascist, and had abused Fascism for his Anti-Semitic crusade.
There had been negotiations with Doenitz and Beck, and other German military officers (almost no National-Socialists were approached, who saw Spain as devils who betrayed Hitler as he needed them the most) there would be no peace, but as Germany surrendered, they were able to find their way into Spain, taking their retirement in Southern Spain.
However issue's were at hand. One of the major issues was the Far-East. The General Consensus was that for the moment, a major intervention was impossible, despite that all parties expressed desires to help Japan and her friends make peace, and maybe join their alliance. It certainly would help resource problems. However there was good news aswell, the Partisan situation in the new gains of Spain were coming under control.
Franco eyed the map of Europe, and knew that the future of Europe would be shaped between the Democrats and the Soviets, however what role would the Fascists be able to play. Despite that he decided to continue advancements in the military field, much of the necessary work would have to be done by Spies and Diplomats, not by Soldiers.
