This is mainly to satisfy my curiosity. The survey is in the link, it has one questions and I will publish the results in about a week. Please use the thread for further comments on why you like or dislike a certain Focus.

Interesting.
Are you planning some work in this area?

Personally, I find myself very often chosing the Family focus, even though imo it is pretty bland in regards to content, but I am such a naive and idealistic guy that I always try to make my spouses like each other ^^
Then I also often switch to Combat focus before a planned war, to get some more troops.
Frankly, I haven't used the other foci frequently lately, but then I haven't really played (only tested) in a while. I still feel they all fill a nice niche, even though content differs vastly in quality. For example:
Family focus feels like it is always only about opinion, which is very boring albeit useful.
I really used to hate the buisness focus, or whatever it was that let me build up fountain and a hedge maze, and get it as a stupid character modifier. But that was before Paradox revised their policy of making literally everything into a character modifier...
Combat Focus, for comparison, feels a bit more thought out overall, and I couldn't say what would need changing there from the top of my head. Well, apart from Duel Engine, but that isn't the focus itself.

Well, I will be curious what the survey will tell...

Usually business at the beginning because I enjoy starting small and am almost always cash starved for the first bit (going on a kidnapping spree, can also help with this).

After that its really up in the air depending on the ruler, some need kids, some are fighting all the time, so the rotation I use actually includes a fair amount of variety.

Overall though its probably Business because every game has to start somewhere.

Well, I actually tend to use almost all of them except rulership, seduction, and carousing, amusingly.
Rulership just always ends up stressing my character out, Seduction is just not too my taste for some reason I can't pinpoint, and carousing has no benefit I wouldn't get from getting invited to carousing by my gazillion party-happy vassals.

Business and Carousing are the two I find the least typical use for. Business is just...boring to me. Carousing is actually pretty useful in theory but I can't be bothered to spam invites and keep up with it.

No, just curious. But if any of the foci isn't used at all that would indicate it needs some content.
I was playing the game the other day and realised I only use family or war.
Ditto. Family or war depending on what I'm trying to do at the time.

I usually almost always use Rulership as my default focus because, while yes you can get some bad events, you can get a lot of good modifiers and traits for free. Family and War would probably be my next 2 highest picks. I sporadically use the rest but nowhere near the frequency of the 3 mentioned.

Yeah the only one I really use other than those two is Seduction. Except for when Hermetic or Benedictine societies make you switch to Learning and Theology for playing the societies

For me it depends on the traits of the character. I always go full immersion when I play. So if a King or duke is a coward.. He not going to take war focus. But if he is paranoid.. he will take the spy focus.. And if he lustful the seduction. sometimes he might take family if he has good relations with his family etc. It all depends really on the traits etc.

I always find myself going family or seduction at the start then after I get a few kids I go down war or carousing dependent on whether I need to stabilize relationships with my vassals or if I want to expand. In the end I always end up using hunting when my ruler goes over the age of 50 or 60. Hunting gives your character a ton of health with the hunting dog I never take hunting till the end because the hunting dogs a one time thing. I usually gives my ruler an extra 10-20 years which is super nice. Sometimes I have games where my dynasty works in cycles where my liege's children all die and his grandchildren inherit my characters titles. So if my character can make it past his 50s I which the mostly do, I go hunting making it probably my most common focus.

I tend to default toward Carousing at least for the early parts of someone's reign, particularly if they have a lowish diplomacy. Once things stabilize it really depends on a combination of traits and what I feel I really need at the time with me leaning toward Hunting if nothing else is looking particularly appealing for what ever reason.

That said, I rarely use either stewardship foci as vanilla has conditioned me to largely avoid them (had one too many rulers die to foci related stress from those), and basically never use either intrigue foci. I just don't really care for the play style they encourage even though I know they can be very powerful tools.
