Ok, I have started my first game. I am the arpad king of hungary and am so far having a great time. This is a really good game. I can tell that you learned or used Sengoku.

Anyways, the only thing that really perplexes me is plots and ambition. The only plot I have had the entire game is to kill my wife. :blink: No other plots available so far. So, is there a list somewhere of all the plots and what you need to to in order to get them? I'd like to try out the plot feature but so far no go. I have a claim on a croatian province but no plot to attack them with help or anything.

I have accomplished two ambitions, but I don't have any of those left either. Is there a list of ambitions?

If you're independent, you have nobody to really plot against -- you're at the top of the food chain in your realm already.

You can, but not with the actual 'plot' mechanic -- there's still assassinations, marriages, fabricated claims, sown dissent, and stolen technology. :p

I see no reason why 2 allied kingdoms could not plot against a lesser nation they both want wiped out.

My biggest issue with plots is that they rely on systems that are extremely weak.
Lets say you start off as Herald I and are forced to surrender. Before doing so you can lower the laws to limited crown authority, lower taxes and levies as low as possible, then surrender.
After that you've got a long road ahead of you. Need to improve your relations with the other dukes, as well as lower their opinions of the king.
Trouble with this? Too slow/weak. So slow that william will probably die of old age first. Now maybe it would work better against his son, but either way plots can take f o r e v e r.

Except that no marriage would be needed, both would coordinate with their own war aims, and it would be a circumstancial alliance to for only one war. In essence, a plot to carve a common, bigger enemy.

ive been playing as a count/duke for the 1st hundred years in my game and ive barely use any apart from the basic have a son ones etc.

the plots/ambitions hopefully one day will be fleshed out a bit more as they do currently feel a bit thin on the ground.

Yeah plots seem pretty useless at the moment. Even when playing as a duke my only potential plot target was my spouse. I can't understand why I can understand my spouse, someone who is useful for me and with whom I have good relations, but I can't plot against hostile peers or my liege.

The plot system isn't fully fleshed out yet. Paradox has commented on how this area of the game has proved especially difficult to code and get working properly. They're not really a problem at the moment, its just a feature of the game that hasn't been fully realized yet. Hopefully something for patches.

The plots to lower crown authority, change succession laws and replace kings work ok - and foreign rulers can be invited into them which is pretty good. I believe there is a specific problem at the moment with the kill plots, and we aren't getting a sensible range of targets, which will get fixed. But I agree that there is a lot of potential that isn't being used, and I hope for more development of them.

Step 1: get a marriage between you and the other kingdom
Step 2: improve your relations with your ally
Step 3: declare war on the enemy nation and invite your ally

As TheChronoMaster has pointed out above you can achieve such things with the normal game mechanics (to quote him: "assassinations, marriages, fabricated claims, sown dissent, and stolen technology"), while those plots are kinda different - i have no idea how the kill your wife is different from a normal assasination (i haven't tried it our yet); but for example with the plot to lower crown authority - when you decide you have enough supporters your liege gets a "letter" signed by all supporters where it says he should lower his crown authority or all plotters will declare war on him (and this is something you couldn't achieve with the nomal game mechanics so easily :D)

I was playing with Duke Laszlo of Transylvania, the cousin of King Solomon of Hungary. I "worked" my way up his succesion line and when I was named his heir, a plot to kill my beloved cousin appeared on the list. Needless to say, I jumped at the opportunity, invited some good folks to the plot (including his spymaster, hehehe), and in a blink of an eye a dead cousin gave me a kingdom. Without bloodshed. Well, maybe just a little :)

Needless to say, I jumped at the opportunity, invited some good folks to the plot (including his spymaster, hehehe), and in a blink of an eye a dead cousin gave me a kingdom. Without bloodshed. Well, maybe just a little :)

Haha! Nice. :p Yea seeing plots fleshed out would make it more fun. For instance, stuff to do with the pope, or with neighboring states that isn't war. Anyways I understand how, in the medieval context, alliance through marriage is a good system.

Would like to see plots against disloyal vassals, especially if you're a king and the vassal is a duke (use his counts against him, especially if they have a claim). Also plots to assassinate heirs makes sense to me, though maybe only if you're already a pretty sleazy ruler. I can understand that could be overpowered though, and the game is quite functional and excellent as is, so better safe than sorry.
