This would be amazing in MP - imagine the Britain and France players trading ideas for the best possible defence along the Rhine and into Belgium, where the main colonial defense forces shall be, where navies shall be positioned, &c.

Truly awesome idea for team co-operation. Also, it needn't be too complex - simply a blank overlay of the world map with three of four basic marker types.

Exactly the use that I see it!

You dont have to include the war plans in savegames, just in temp memory. I propose adding a layer (like terrain, weather, or political) which contains some basic ms paint like features for planning, but is erased after each session.

Why would the ai have to use it?

It wouldn't, the AI could just 'tell' the other ai's in its alliance what to do, like the borg (because I was just thinking Star Trek for some reason).

I think what oribiasi meant though was, for example, if you play canada, AI brit sends you a map and or requests telling you what it wants from 'canada' for its plans. I think the latter would work better than the former though, and it would be best if we knew how 'cooperative ai' works before guessing anything more about ai

Sort of, yes. I think you're right on, though in your example. My guess though is that the cooperative AI workls much like they have been describing for the AI on various fronts. Maybe pick 40 divisions, point them towards Moscow, and let 'em have at it.

I'd much rather be able to go back to them after saving the game and shutting down for the night. HOI1/2/3 can be a long, long game.

Similar to the thing in Empire Earth 2, where you drew up plans on a map (kind of like a tellestrator when you're watching sports) and then they do it. If that's what you're talking about, I love the idea. If not, it sounds like a good idea anyway :p

Actually, it'd be even simpler - the beautiful thing about provinces is, you only need one coordinate.

Do you mean something like <path><point x="32" y="39"><province id="342"></path>?

Then you can choose two or more provinces/points and the game should read them from first to last and make a line.

And we will must be able to put circles or squares (simple forms) to "select" objetives.

And the last one: you can draw different "level" lines. I mean, you can zoom in/out, and some lines can appear too stretched in map. So you could make lines in more provinces, covering more provinces. I hope you have understood it.

I'm oh so facinated by the arrows etc. moving across a map, when watching Discovery (when it wasn't all mythbusters and somebody building choppers or tattooing).

It'd really make me feel like Manstein in the war room moving units around and describing your plans to your colleagues (and the short fella with the shaving mishap).

This is really one of the best ideas I've read from gamers! WOW! In CIV I would mark where every town would go and make notes of who goes where and it really helps if I only come back in 2 moths time. For this reason it needs to be part of the save file.
