The plots are aimed at those targets we've deemed "legit". Anyone else you feel the needs to meet his maker can be assassinated through the normal assassinate diplo interaction.

So for example, the assassination plot target that someone mentioned above:

2. Ida von Cham, an 11-year-old parentless girl in the court of the Kaiser (???)

Why is she "legit"?

Playing the demo, I've already modded the councilor requirements so that women can be chancellors, treasurers, and spymasters, as they could in CK1; if I likewise opened up the ambitions to become those positions, that would be enough, I think, right there to stem the tide of killer moms.

More than slightly hyperbolic don't you think? Aside from one playthrough where my daughter-in-law wanted to off my eldest son in favor of her own husband I've not seen one "killer mom".

I haven't seen any killer moms either, although I only can play the demo 20 years at a time. What I am confused about is if all NPCs have to have ambitions or if they can be left blank. If they all have ambitions, then the majority of women are in assassination mode. If not, then I don't see the lack of plots for them to be a big deal.

I hope all NPC dont have ambitions, thats going to lead to way too much assassination plotting. Not every single courtier and vassal in Europe should be actively trying to kill someone.

ok i got a good idea, for those not happy with the base game, just add your own plots in, saves the trouble of the devs having to push back the release date even further because of a minority of people not happy, most of us are to busy playing to complain, lol..and even tho the plots may seem the same, "Kill so and so" etc, you will find that the target of the plot differs greatly depending on who yo are and your status in your realm and such, so the plots are very dynamic, even if it seems there is only a few.

Considering the role and opportunities most women had in the middle ages, it seems to me that the plots available to them are actually rather sensible.

There are a lot of people IRL who really don't seem to care if they accomplish much with their life. I don't see why the Middle Ages should have been any different, and as long as the threshold Captain Gars was talking about is at a reasonable level (which it seems to be), I'm really not sure where all the complaining about these "killer moms" etc is coming from.

Sure, more plots for playable characters will be great, but I'd much rather have a game with minimal bugs than a few more plots.

Well, yes, I would have hoped the jokey tone would be apparent there. Again, though, are you keeping your spymaster revealing plots in your capital? Because I have noticed quite a few of these.

On the lack of plots

Anyone else you feel the needs to meet his maker can be assassinated through the normal assassinate diplo interaction.

Some people might have missed that.

On women doing too much kill

Its part of the game , but i guess people who just joined the CK2 forum and played the demo are overwhelmed by the possibility of beeing killed. #shock# ;)

If you started killing people in CK1 and were discovered, the ai retalitated. So this made me as Byzatium loose half my ministers and two kings (but all old enough heirs) in a very short time, but the Seljuk Turks lost 2 Spymasters, 1 Marshall and three Kings. Muhahahaa...needless to say, i won the war and they fall apart.
It was a great experience.

On woman not doing enough

I was suprised as well, reckognising that only wife, spouse can be spymaster, but you can , as mentioned above, easily mod it in.
If you're a woman and want to play as such you do matrilineal marriage and kill all your sons. Voila, a matriarchy !

On Johans comment

Should he have said something along the line "Probably there will be, but it depends on specifc factors we blablabla" ??
Do we want the Developers to turn into politicians, because they get used to people exaggerating every single statement ?
I think not.

The game has a great following it seems and everybody , well most i guess, are pretty happy with the demo and the better release version.
Lets wait for the full gamer. A demo is a teaser nothing less, nothing more.
Cheers

No, with 20 years it's hard to see how the plot system will really play out long term. But from what we know about the mechanic it looks like an assassination will be the only option available to female NPCs most of the time, and I'd rather most of them have no active ambition rather than assassination one that doesn't really make sense.

Perhaps it would be more constructive to start a "plots we'd like to add" thread, and let the modders take it from there. I don't doubt that the group on this board will have a couple of mods adding plots in short order.

My contribution:
"I want to slander character X" - spread rumors about the past acts or sexual preferences of said character
"I want to shag character X" - (obvious)
"I want to move to another court"

They aren't. This isn't the problem. The problem is that married women who qualify for assassination plots will pretty much always take them, whereas other characters will have their desires to kill someone diluted by their desires to achieve a title, become the marshal, get married, et cetera et cetera.

Playing as Mathilda, I never got an option to pick plots to lower crown authority, change succession laws or get the emperor's title. I was never asked by anyone to join their plots either.

Bad luck or some bug with female rulers? Was anyone able to pick such plots with her?

Killer moms exist in theory but not really in practice. The wives of your brothers plot endlessly to kill your children so that their children will inherit but they have no power to pull it off alone, they need backing from your court (=your barons, bishops, mayors and councillors). They're coded to only execute the plot if they have 100% backing unless they are paranoid or maniac in which case they settle for 50% and very likely fail so keep your vassals happy and your heirs will always be safe from the fury of ambitious ladies. Even better, only choose heretics and foreigners to be your brothers' wives while keeping your court pure-blooded Aryan master race and no one will even dream of liking them enough to join plots against you.
And when the wives inevitably get found out, you can send them to prison for free and if they have got some gold from events or something, you can banish them and confiscate their belongings.

Its not a problem, its as it should be. Most of the time they will probably be discovered. Brothers will plot against brothers an their sons. Sons will plot against sons. Thats the way the game works. Maybe you should watch paradoxlps streams on either youtube or his twitchtv channel, especiall the ones from 23January to 28Jan. Or Secretmasters second French LP.
It works , we've seen it and its fun.

I'm not fully sure about it, but i think its because tuscany is not part of the HRE. Italian vassals are supposed to rebel. Its a gamemechanic decision.

If you start at minimal crown authority and elective succession, is there any reason for plotting?

About plots, it seems this thread went a litte out of hand, but I agree with the general idea. Plots are great and this is why we want more good ones. Currently, it's as if once you are a respected emperor, you have no more ambitions apart killing your wife. It does seem odd, especially when you have a good relation with said wife.

I'm going beyond th epoint of this thread, but I think that some characters should by nature be reluctant to "evil" plots. Someone kind should probably not have this option, for example, and I would remove the "pretender" modifier to some characters too, as not everybody was willing to kill his brother to take the crown.

Specifically about plots, as I understand their functionning, they are meant to tie some other characters to an action which we would have difficulty to do alone. I think we should have a temporary positive modifier when we join a plot, especially since we can have just one at the time.

Here are some examples of "reversed" plots and plots I would like (I like the ideas about tarnishing reputation too) :
- Imprisoning (or killing) the most powerful duke of the kingdom (when I am king or duke).
- Ask anyone to join our project to assassinate someone
- Taking a specific province (would be most interesting for crusades)
- Imposing papal investitutre
- Imposing free investiture
- More levels of wealth/prestige/piety (and why not realm?)

In fact, I think everyone should have access to a plot/ambition at every time.

The only concern is a Rome Vae Victus scenario where everyone is dying all over the place due to assassins. In my demo game as Duke of Bohemia, all my brothers and sones killed each other off over 20 years to get into the line of succession, basically guaranteeing pretenders will be murderous. Ofcourse, a 20 year demo is not enough to see the real effect of this, I certainly didn't see the same in a Doukas game, though everyone seemed to keep dying on the battlefield instead.

Didn't see killer mums, though I did get informed of quite a few female murder plots.

The problem could presumabley be easily fixed by just leaving a high chance that AI characters don't always pick plots unless they meet certain requirments.
