I have become tired of the automatic generation (in game) of buildings. The frustration of inappropriate industrial monsters appearing among the houses in a residential suburb, or in the middle of an urban park! This has forced me to switch off the 'city growth' option when starting a new city. This is particularly important when playing realistic cities such as those wonderful maps available on the CIMX website. Try them: http://www.cimexchange.com/files/category/47-realistic/
This creates problems when undertaking construction tasks, as any slight modification to the road network can cause the unexpected destruction of buildings anywhere on the affected road. Currently any lost buildings cannot be replaced! Ploppable buildings would enable replacement.
Also this facility would enable controlled building developments such as housing estates, shopping centers etc. to be constructed. This would open up another whole layer of city building game-play possibilities!
Obviously any plopped building would have to be paid for, maybe at their current bulldoze price?

I'd like a "public authority" player too, especially when I want to expand a city after I've covered what's already there.
Another idea to make to make the automatic generation better for custom maps (not sure if doable in CIM2 but should be considered for a potential CIM3), is to be able to plop customizable building blockers in the map editor: we already have blockers that forbid every kind of buildings, used to make parks; it would be cool if we could program those to forbid only some kind of building while allowing the others (I imagine it with a drop-down menu with a list of all the cathegories availabler and the ability to check or uncheck each one for maximum flexibility).

This was a feature a really liked with the build mod in CIM1; when I get bored and reach a high coverage of a city, I started building my own developments. It is a great twist to the game.

I love this idea! :) +1

Is it possible to create a new function that allows us to put the building manually by hand if we switched-off the city growth?
Because if the city-growth is switched-off and we build new streets ingame, there will be no buildings in these new streets.
I play allways sandbox without city-growth, and I would not have an automatically changed cityscape.

Terrain is less likely to work. Each Savegame references the map file for terrain to reduce size. So this is less likely to work :(
I wish the file format would be better for external tools...

Chance of an answer?
