Oh come on...I am sorry, but HOI is not the kind of game suitable for this kind of Nazi fantasy stuff. Not that there shouldn't be games about it, but they better be designed specifically around that.
Am totally fine with that.... Try to summon your perceived patron deities from old germanic pantheon but end up summoning Cthulhu and his family. Would be hella fun.As a game HOI4 has some limitations in terms of sandboxing alien invasions and the like but as long as you "fantasy" occurrence is a WW2 event then it should work fine. AS mentioned by others, a bit of Nazi occultism is no more unreasonable than some of the other ahistorical lines the game can take. Personally I would be inclined (if I was doing it) to have some event chains for this sort of thing but half of them would lead to a world wide apocalypse where you all lose. Sure you can bring back the Norse Gods but they're not really on your side, they're on their side.
Great, now I have to make this a modAm totally fine with that.... Try to summon your perceived patron deities from old germanic pantheon but end up summoning Cthulhu and his family. Would be hella fun.
I suspect it would require a great deal of work but I wouldn't be surprised if an occult mod was very popular. One issue is that you would have to be very careful around the Paradox "rules" about content and might need to avoid some of the darker potential content.Great, now I have to make this a mod
Wasn't "Sunset Invasion" successful financially though? (but hated on forums)
True that, there is quite a bit of craziness to every Paradox expansion pack. I mean let's be honest.... Sometimes historic reenactment and roleplay are fun but that's not what majority of us came here for. We are here for bonkers althistory playthrough. Stuff like Byzantine Empire raising from the ashes of WW2 or Aztecs colonizing Europe.Given that it was a small piece even by DLC standards (a portrait set and a few events, basically), it can't have cost very much to make, so it didn't need to make all that many sales to be a "financial success". Furthermore, it had the incalculable benefit of making everything else Paradox released look reasonable by comparison.
Sacrilege!!!! I got the hoi1 anthology as my introduction to paradox games. Came with a plastic iron cross that may be somewhere still. Allocating IC to research was the epidimy of hoi balance. Also took me ages to figure out how to allocate generals to armies. Was a bit embarrassing. There was an HOI 1, HOI 2 is far superior
A German moon base and a Soviet Mars base! Because Mars is Red! [Loved Iron Sky and eagerly await the sequel]Add a German moon base or I will riot and uninstall.
But we can have a Tannu Tuva world conquest. Right.I am sorry, but HOI is not the kind of game suitable for this kind of Nazi fantasy stuff. Not that there shouldn't be games about it, but they better be designed specifically around that.
While I would much prefer to see a lot more restraint regarding what people post publicly in the workshop [especially to reduce the clutter] from what I have seen Paradox has no control over what goes on there - that is entirely on Steam to police. On these forums we do need to be careful what we mention.I suspect it would require a great deal of work but I wouldn't be surprised if an occult mod was very popular. Well I used "Nazi" since it sounded catchier but honestly i'm fine with anything occult in any ideology. So for example Red Army scouring latin america (and raiding military bases in US territory which they magically managed to infiltrate) for relics in a bid to obtain mind control power like in Indiana Jones is also nice. Red Alert also has some lovely stuff like Yuri and moon bases and communists going back in time, fighting dinosaurs and other fun stuff. And it doesnt even have to be dark. Just wacky. Like fun expeditions to Tibet or Antarctica or searching for the Ark of Covenant/Holy Grail.I really hope HoI4 gets an expansion in the future with whack content like that, I just love it when companies throw out their brakes and just seem to do what would be cool, like a 80s neon Farcry, or that time Battlefield 1942 got an expansion with jetpacks.
That said, I have two concerns with this specific suggestion.
1. As with pretty much all things nazi, it feels a bit uneasy*. And this also feeds into...
2. What about other countries, ideologies and players? To me this seems like a very limited feature.
So personally I'm more for the Wunderwaffe route. Pretty much all sides pursued miraculous new weapons to turn the tide of war, and even in our timeline some were invented and put to good use. So in that sense it adds something for everyone.
I'd suggest starting with fleshing out the "Race for the bomb"-decision into a mechanic of it's own where instead of every country just researching nukes in a set amount of days, it's a project that requires you to construct reactors, devote resources, accomplish missions (like holding Telemark as Germany) and maybe even spy a little on your competitors.
Then just adapt that mechanic to a bunch of different projects, I'm thinking one per research tab, add some uncertainty (projects should have various degrees of success ranging from consolation prize to actual tide-turners), let the player decide how historically whack the game should be et voila! Wunderwaffe.
(EDIT) *And the same could be said, albeit to a much lesser extent, when it comes to anything the History channel has produced within the last 10-15 years or so. Using them as a source would not be looked upon favourably in the community.
I have actually seen a mod whereby the Final Solution can be activated to give Germany a bonus. While I would much prefer to see a lot more restraint regarding what people post publicly in the workshop [especially to reduce the clutter] from what I have seen Paradox has no control over what goes on there - that is entirely on Steam to police. As for mechanics maybe also repurpose intelligence agency... Why form lame Abwehr when you can form chad Ahnenerbe. Dedicate your industrial power to develop you occult agency and seize the mystical power from beyond!
I have no idea why anyone here would look unfavourably at History Channel... It does have history in its name![]()
to give Germany a bonus.
