In past HOI games they added in a 10% per year reduction for previous years. I'd like to see a return to that.
I do not ever remember seeing that in HoI2. It was easier to catch up on old techs in that game because your allies tended to be very generous with blueprints.

And by the way what is a MEFO?

I did not like tech trading at all, If ya fell out of the 'having something some thing better to offer' loop, you became 3rd world as the rest of the world advanced to 2-3 years ahead current research dates.

10% reduction just sound a bit drastic for now. I think more balancing and tweaks need to be done before considering this 'good' idea.

I haven't played in several years but as I remember it, it was 10% cheaper per year past.

That's the way it was before and we didn't have huge research times like we do now. Yeah the techs were different, but overall you didn't lag behind this bad. A 10% bonus per year old tech isn't very much, but overall it should really help nations keep up to near historical levels - at least that was the purpose of my idea in this thread. Others have also called for this since the game launched in 2016.

I don't think a "years known" tech bonus makes sense here at all. It's there in EU and Vicky but there the game is spread over decades or centuries so technologies usually find their way around. Even then, things like tech group in EU and literacy in Vicky make sure that there are other things to keep balance.

In HoI 4, most of the techs are military in nature and you can't really expect these to spread to non-allies within the time-frame of the game. And the spread to allies is already simulated.

What I think might work is how rifle technology spreads in Vicky2. For example, if you are at war with a country that has Jet Interceptors, it should increase your research on Jet Interceptors to simulate the fact that you maybe captured/ observed a few of them.

All that being said, I am very much in favour of going back to the HoI2 tech system with the tech teams. It was so much more immersive and fun than the system in HoI3 and HoI4. I don't know why they removed it in the first place.

You mean smth like Allied Technical Air Intelligence Unit (Hangar #7) that gathered info about crushed planes during war? That can be a good idea if it will apply to all nations with a new idea (Sort of Intelligence) or mb with coefficient to the amount of already learnt technological research.

We say that now, but back then the boards rang with howls of protest, everyone had a favorite tech team that Paradox had unjustly shafted (Mine was Maxime Weygand). :D

WtT / Japan / China was mady be Pdx like it is now to give Pdx a chance to sell Hoi at China.

Japan feels like a minor to play now, no industry, neither CIC nor MIC, no ressources, no research and a ton of crappy shitty decisions.

I actually find that Japan has more industry now, by 1945 I felt that I was swimming in industry and the resources to support it.

Some of the decisions I think are pretty weak, and strange. I hope that PDS fleshes them out. It seems to me that they just gave more paths to go down, one for each government type and two for being historically fascist. Within the fascist ones at least, I find them lacking.

I'm adjusting to WtT Japan. Last game I was more advanced than AI Germany thru 1940. If you just go all in and try to complete an entire branch or any decision that pops up, your not going to be very successful. Like the old tree, ya got to mix things up and think out side the box. Historically, one guy making all the decisions is bound to screw it all up. With rare exceptions, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Hitler, Mussolini, and Tojo for instance. Stalin had help to keep from losing his country. The idea is to not steer your country into a ruin like the Axis leaders did.

I don't think China will change there mind with the ban. The likely don't want the world to be reminded of how weak they were only 80 years ago.

In short I think it would also create more balance issues than it fixes.

Did you play on ironman? if yes i'd like to see screenshots how you can be more advanced than Germany.
It goes without saying you need to research what is the best focus to you right now, but you have only 2 options: fast war with China or mobilization and extra research slot

I supported the Kodoha with Showa restoration. I'm still testing this branch with a few restarts, so no screenshot at the moment, sorry.
Currently I'm testing the 1937 A6M Zero-sen route, holding off on the Kodoha support so I can also remain Fascist long enough for increased conscription laws and Spanish volunteers with planes, so I'll have lots of air exp. for the Zero. I'm also considering a manual war goal but can't decide on who. If not, I'll test saving 350 PP for an early war vs. Soviet Union thru the Decision Operation, and join the Axis after Soviet Union capitulates.

Everything seems faster and better than before WtT. aside from a few expected bugs and weird AI behaver. Keeping in mind that I micro manage and am used to using infantry with no front line artillery.

Try to focus on mainly on army and engineering techs 1939+, or try Vet/Elite difficulty for awhile and regular will seem like a breeze. :D
