Maintain copyright on the game assets but open the software to community maintenance so that future generations can also enjoy the games you choose to stop supporting. I understand that development cannot continue forever if the work is done by paid employees, but dedicated volunteers could see that the legacy continues at no cost to you. Indeed, requiring purchase of the commercial title in order to use your game assets would ensure a future revenue stream with almost no effort or expense on your part outside of cloud storage.
