I get a nice warm fuzzy feeling when I buy something I love to play. Doesn't matter if I can play right away, but just looking at it in my steam library brings tears to my eyes.

I also get tears in my eyes looking at my library, but only because all these great games I'v bought come out faster than I have time to play them right now

Pre-orders do provide a market signal to the developers of the level of interest in the game, and higher pre-orders are likely to make DLC more likely to be planned pre-release (DLC, like everything, takes time, so if the team knows there's likely to be DLC to build post-release because of high demand, then they won't disband and have to be put back together again if the demand is necessary). It's also a way for fans to signal their support to the studio, if they so desire, which lets the studio have a better indication of how it'll go financially from the game, which makes it a lot easier for them to budget and plan for the future, DLC or no. Of course, no customer is obligated to pre-order for these reasons, but it's not crazy to do so.

yeah this is very true and the reason I try to preorder all games I know i want to buy anyway. Although I still think too many companies open up preorder too early. It should at least be at a point where you are confident there isnt going to be any significant change to the release date.
