Currently, there are two ways to get maps from another nation. The first is to ask for them, but this diplomatic action cannot target subject nations. The second is to steal them, but this is slow and potentially harms relations if caught. If I don't take Exploration ideas and I vassalize a colonizer, I can't see where they're colonizing, and I can't see all the map that they have discovered. It becomes nearly impossible to defend their colonies when we go to war.

I would like there to be some way for me to obtain maps from my subjects, and I am certain that many others would want this ability too. Maybe it could be a subject interaction, where maps are automatically shared with the overlord in exchange for giving them some small amount of monthly prestige (to match with the way asking for maps is paid for with prestige). Maybe it could be a tweak to the conditions for asking for maps that allows targeting subject nations if they're your subjects. There are many ways to handle it, and I know the devs can work out something balanced. Please?

EDIT: I made a fool of myself arguing that it was impossible to steal maps from your own subject, and was proven wrong. So I have edited this to reflect that there is a way to obtain maps from yyour subjects. I still would like a way to do it through upfront diplomacy instead of espionage.

This feels like such a basic thing, it's almost surprising you can't do this. You should be able to take maps from loyal subjects.

The same should go for war allies.

Oh you are calling me to a war with someone? I dunno where they are tho, can I get your maps? Oh no, because you are at war.
