i'm having troubles adjusting to the new UI aswell but i think it's to early to judge. i was so accustomed to the hoi2 UI that maybe i just don't realize the greatness of the new UI yet :D

Upon further reflexion I believe this is likely the case. The new UI is so different it may just be because we still do not fully understand it yet.

My first impression is that the interface is very new and quite different. And yes, it's a pretty substantial change from HOI2.

But do you remember the first time you played the HOI series. Or what about the first time you played the Europa Universalis series. Or the first time you played one of the others. It was damn hard! And not just the interface either. There is a lot to learn here.

So far, I'm very impressed with the changes. No doubt they will take some getting used to. The technology section (which I like so far) seems like a throwback to the original HOI.

It's simply a fabulous simulation...stunning really...there really isn't anything like it.

I really feel as though I'm getting my money's worth.

I think I will get more experience when I build the whole heirarchy for a nation by myself.

Yeah this is a big part of the "problem".

I love HOI series and have played them lots and i did find the demo a bit daunting at the start. But i think a large part of it is you havent controlled the production / setup for the country and you have been "thrown in the deep end".

I've played a couple of games now (since you cant save it and i play it on the train to and from work) and i feel a lot better now then i did when i started.

I think once people play from the start like Jan 1936 and have to setup all these things themselves, it will make a lot more sense.

I do agree that i wish the sprites had more info on them as i always played with sprites in HOI2 but i've had to convert to counters in HOI3 because i just dont have enough info. Its not a complaint as i can see how counters can have more info then sprites, but i do miss the graphics :)

Awesome game though - i'm counting the days till release - i havent pre-ordered yet as i'm unsure whos going to have it first so i'm waiting until its actually available.

p.s. i woke up at 2am Syd AUS just to download the demo and play for a few hours

When I first booted the game up and started playing Germany I felt totally overwhelmed by the command structure. I wish they had included the option to play the Spanish civil war in the demo, or something simpler. However, I spent a good hour playing around as France, looking at every single unit in every command strucutre, etc, and finally got a good grasp on it. I found looking at north Africa to be especially enlightening because there were far fewer units there. Anywere, after though, I think I like the command structure, but I am concerned about having to keep moving my HQ units to the proper distance, and I am not even sure how far that distance is. And also, its not clear how big the bonuses units get from being near an HW.

I was curious about the tactical AI (which I have seen much praise for from the guys who have already been playing the game for a while), so I pretty much just moved a couple of air forces into the East Front (yes, I played Germany) and fiddled around with noncombat stuff for a bit. After a few tries and hitting the tutorials (which I wish included a bit on how to command your armies--actually clicking around--I guess that's what the scenarios are going to be for) I figured out how to set objectives and I was off and running. Mostly, I just let the AI run everything except politics and research, and watched. Since it managed to mostly pull off my 1939 double blitz strategy (take out France, Belgium, and Poland at the same time), I give it an A.

I guess I should fiddle with objectives and see how those affect performance, but I can wait a few days for that.

As, for the UI, look at it this way: At least it's better than Vicky.
I'm starting to get the hang of it, though I do wish a few things were easier to find and that I could make my own fronts for Air/Naval operations independent of everything else such as strategic bombing. And of course the other odd bugs and features that were overlooked. Oh well, just two patches too go and it's playable. ;)

Paradox must correct interference for HOI 3!!!
I do not know, how if have perfect interference in HoI2, why to change in next game?

HoI 3 is so different than 2...

Is difficult to get used to...
