Quick Question:
Does the Catholic League act as a coalition vs. anyone who attacks one of its members?

Detail:
I am playing as the Ottomans (Sunni Religion) and just attacked Austria, the leader of the HRE and the Catholic league. It says their allies are a couple of HRE nations, but when I declared war on them I wound up in a war with more than half of Europe. When I looked at the Catholic league it seems that any country in that league comes into war with Austria against me.

Why is that, I am not in the protestant league. Can anyone please explain the dynamics of these leagues to me. Thanks!

It's b/c u attacked the leader of a league. If you attacked a normal member they would not all have came. The big league war starts when 1 league leader attacks the other. To see who leads them, and who is in them at any given time, click the HRE button on the bottom left of your screen.

Right, but league wars should only trigger with the religious supremacy CB. A non-league member attacking a league member shouldn't trigger that even if it is the leader. I'm honestly a little confused about the leagues myself, I thought 25 years or something was supposed to go by without a counter attempt by the Catholics for the Protestant victory to fire, but it fired before the truce was even up.

Quick answer is the leagues and mechanics of it are bugged as hell. Including the tool tips. Use at your own risk.

Brave Denmark had no issues with England's religion even if they were Protestant rather than Catholics. Denmark just wanted connaught to get their cores back and went to war. Denmark went to wat perhaps a bit too eagerly and some Danish vassals such as Brandenburg and Saxony joined the war.. On the English side. Because league. I understand that being in a war with England against Austria they may not be able to fight against England and them just peacing out may be open to abuse, but to drop vassal status and go to war with former overlord? To add insult to injury they refused individual peace treaties because they were former subjects of defender (even if Denmark was the aggressor not defender. Very annoying.
