Maybe some way of showing pertinent terrain on the map without going overboard would be nice. It's always annoying being on one map screen happily fighting away, suddenly hitting an obstacle, then switch to terrain and realize you've driven right into a marsh!!!!! Or you can't understand why your CTF is sucking and suddenly realize, Oh, it's RAINING!!!

Yeah, and that's going to be an even bigger problem with 10k provinces. As far as graphics are useful it would be very helpful to have some sort of visual cue as to the weather / ground state in more than just the weather mapmode.

This is similar to what I've been saying before about information management generally. I think that a great much of the information in all the HoI2 map modes can be represented in a single map mode. Looks at the Medieval Total War 2 map for an example of what I mean. Even that implementation was not amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but it was certainly better than HoI2's.
If we do have multiple map modes, we really must have shortcut keys to get to them quickly.

Speaking of the weather... it would also be nice to add some control for air missions or sea missions... in THEORY one shouldn't fly plane missions with heavy rain because it'd be just a waste of oil, the manual says that... but it'd be quite hard to check the weather on 10,000 provinces every hour to make sure that no plane is flying with rain or fog or snow... It'd be nice to add options to the mission dialog such as "ONLY IN GOOD WEATHER" or "ONLY WHEN IT SNOWS"... :)

Yet another reason for airpower to be abstracted.

Based on trailer , map looks actually really nice. It got bigger provinces and inside those bunch of smaller ones, which reminds me about how Vicky worked.

I could sign up for that. Wasn't necessarily the biggest fan of Med TW II (liked Rome TW and the original Med better as far as gameplay), but the map was pretty nifty.

Please God do not go mad with the 3D, I can appreciate that some people will like the sprites but for me it has to be the counters. For this period I would suggest that a flat world is more appropriate. If you so wish do have little 3D cities but please keep them low to the ground and just give the impression of a urban area.

I do not want a world where my counter is poking out from behind a mountain or worse actually sticking out of a mountain.

I do not need to see a sprinkle of trees across the USSR giving the impression of some sort of pin cushion when a flat texture can do the same job and look better.
Why are you asking god (if he even exists)? Unless you have started calling Johan god, why are you not asking Johan?because last time I checked, it was Johan who was reponsible for HoI 3 development, not God.

I wonder if bigger looking provinces are for building IC and test sites while smaller ones seem to be for units.

As I said, I didn't think that the Medieval II map was great at all, but as far as giving you a great deal of information, it certainly has HoI2 trumped :)
essentially it had:
  • Partisan levels (pop happiness)
  • Terrain
  • Weather conditions (if only summer/winter it was still there visually)
  • Bunch of info on your town (income, etc could easily = infrastructure, IC, etc)
  • Garrison levels

and probably more, all on a single map view. That was my point only, I'm not saying Medieval II's map was the pinnacle of design :)

Seconded, those petty 3d-animations of EU III give me the creeps. I want to play a strategy game with many options, not some visual pseudo-real-time-Blitzkrieg-wanna-be-thing-overkill...

Right I understand.

Funny though I never minded switching between maps for information. I kind of like it, the more maps the better just make them look like maps. I don't want to be planning my invasion of the USSR and see a cloud drifting across the screen.

To be honest I do not think Paradox will go mad on the 3D but I bet they will find it hard to resist having a 3D Tiger tank on the box. :)
