I don´t see what´s so bad about some game mechanic being abused.
Because I thought the main purpose of playing a game is to be having fun.
Who cares whether other people from somewhere on this planet exploit game mechanics in their living room ?
For me, the negotiation feature was the feature that made Vicky stand out amongst all other Paradox games. Let whoever wants to exploit it do this and let whoever wants to use it non-exploitative do that as well.
And no, saving the game, going to the desktop, opening a 15 Megabyte text file which takes ages even with a decent PC, searching 10 minutes for the correct spots in the file, editing some numbers from one spot to another and then going back to the game is not exactly what I have in mind when talking about "fun".

Why are people even asking for a step back from Victoria in Victoria II, if something was good in Victoria why get rid of it?
The land trading is a must, not only to get clean borders but colonial swaps and getting your satilities the provinces you want them to have or not to have.
Uhh... because trading land for tech was blantantly abused in Victoria?

Paradox should implement the system used in AoD, with some minor tweaks.

For the uninitiated, you can right click on provinces, and with a single click transfer any non-core province to any ally. Of course, it's almost impossible to buy provinces from the AI. This, combined with no 'open negotiations' button would be a quite a good middle ground. And if this can be implemented in a Europa engined fan-made project, I can't imagine it being hard to do for Paradox using the Clausewitz engine.

Besides, I'm pretty sure you can fix it by editing the save game.

This. It takes about 2 minutes to tidy up land transfers using Notepad on the savegame file. Problem solved.

well, what the player does in the privacy of their own game really should not matter. If the player wants to use such a gameplay method, let them. So long as the player is honest about it when they write an AAR or it is agreed to do in multiplayer, what harm does it do?

AFAIK the AI did not do such things itself with other AI neighbors in V1 or, from what I can recall, did it offer land to the human player in exchange for techs, so really it isn't a huge problem IMHO.

I find the argument flawed. Every player can cheat as much as he likes. That doesn't mean the designers should encourage it. If the AI can't handle complex trades, then there is no reason why the player should be allowed another leg up. Enabling the player to do silly AI-abusive trades ingame legitimizes the whole thing. "Yes I did a world conquest with Hawaii without cheating..."

I have to agree with the usefullness of landswaps for quick in game "what if" scenarios. After playing a few Grand Campaigns I spent most of my time with Victoria playing those sort of games.

+1

The more I read abot Vic2 the more I think right after release there will be lot of shouting here...and two or three patches - just to implement features everybody was talking about in the first place.

I never heard of this. I didn't even know this was possible.
Anyway wouldn't it still take out your research points? So you're getting it a year or so earlier but other than that it's not a big deal. It's not like some minor could get all of the UK's techs and instantly industrialise.

Yes, it was the case. You could get a tech but it costed you resarch points.

If you want to split territory with an ally in a peace then your ally needs to state a war goal that they want that territory.

And since the ai on vicky 2 is going to be so advanced that it openly discuses war goals with its ally just like a person in real life would, this won't be a problem at all....
yep

Correct... but it is all about picking the right techs. It was mostly used to civilize the uncivilized.

But you need a series from each category, and you could only do one tech trade before your RP went to -100 or whatever, so first you'd need to research the first required one on each category, and if you could do that surely you could just research the rest?

I have a suggestion.

Taking away "negociations" is fine, but I really liked using that feature to strengthen my puppets and to give away unwanted land.

Negociations should be replaced with a "Grant Advantages" button to give Land, Tech or Money to vassals or allies or SoI members, without being able to ask for anything in return.

Cheaters could exploit it by switching countries - sure - but then its their own damn fault. Most players would get the ability to strengthen their allies without getting free tech in the process... IMO its worth it. Plus, on the screenie, you have a slot left on the diplomatic screen :D

Giving away something for nothing could also grant a small relations boost. Surely that wouldnt be truly exploitable?

This is a fairly minor game exploit, against the removal of a feature which made Victoria the game it was. A Victoria player needs non-war diplomacy.

We're speaking about exploits as if they're the Worst.Thing.Ever. They really aren't. And even if they are, I'm pretty sure there are ways of tightening this particular one up without sacrificing a major element of the game.

If I create Sokoto as a satelite, and I want to give them the Niger Delta as a sea access, then surely that should be just as doable in Vicky 2 as it was in Vicky 1. Likewise, if I, as the US, want to buy Cuba or Alaska, and make a really, really good offer, then surely there should be a chance that my offer will be accepted.

Anyone who knows how to use the console, remembers codes for various provinces, and uses it ingame is clearly skilled enough to go into the save file and edit land borders by himself. I want the developpers to concentrate on making a sensible AI, even if that means less features, rather than spend time on this.

This. It takes about 2 minutes to tidy up land transfers using Notepad on the savegame file. Problem solved.

It takes more than 2 min.

1. First you need to write down all the provinces you want to copy on a piece of paper.

2. Quit game.

3. Open large file.

4. Find the country you want to give land to.

5. Find the country you want to sede land.

6. Save.

7. Open game

Considering the large amount of provinces in Victoria, it for sure takes longer than 2 min.

The main point is: Why cant pdox implenent this feature in the console. Its nothing extreme, new, or dangerous. The info is there already!
