To make it clear: I'm talking about all MGs: Mounted on HTs, HMGs and LMGs within a Squad.

Heyho,

I just played against very hard AI and realized that this is actually a true problem: The AI often times gathers its infantry-squads up in wild bunches and charges sometimes even across open fields... but since you can only suppress one squad with a single MG (LMG/ Heavy/ HT-mounted) such "wave"-tactics do actually work.

The most easy solution to make MGs true suppressive weapons is to give them an AoE that scales with the number of MGs within a squad.
At least all Belt-Fed MGs should get an AoE... maybe around 5m (10m for heavy MGs or when 2x LMGs are within a squad).

Would this suggestion help gameplay or make it worse?
Have I overlooked something?

sincerely,
Thonar

I already use MGs in favor of normal infantry in Divisions where its an option. They have more range, suppression and ammo plus can be used under 100m compared to light MGs the normal infantry has. If you buff them further it just reduces the impact of normal infantry more and more and makes infantry attacks an obscure rarity. Also there is the issue of MGs being on all the vehicles and tanks who are already incredibly strong and often very cheap making infantry almost obsolete in many uses.

Also there is already many AoE weapons in the form of direct fire HE.

I talk about ALL MGs, being them mounted on HT, being them within a "Rifle"-squad or being them HMGs.

The effect is the same it makes vehicles and long range MGs stronger against infantry thereby lessening the usefulness of infantry.
In many Multiplayer games Infantry is already of minor importance this would make the situation worse.
