Please get rid of the dead bird before release

The bird art is not so bad, we just need to help the fella get back to the older time period he came from.
Then neither would the wreath of a specific plant only found on earth, wich is somehow associated with Victory thanks to Roman culture.
Wich is then somehow used to Signify Federations.
Are they related to the space ducks?
Or maybe more the space cows?
As others have mentioned the (space) dove in itself is okay. Some of the other icons show quite "medieval" symbols as well (the kneeling subjugate with his spear and so on), so the dove doesn't break the style. Personally, I still would have chosen something different, but that that's not my point.
My objection is indeed, that the dove symbol doesn't fit the others very well. It is too big, doesn't have the same level of detail. (Weirdly, despite its size, the details are hard to read and the dove is not recognizable as such at the first glance.)
It just looks out of place and simply isn't a good icon imo. I think, a bit more abstraction would serve it well.

The kneeling guy with a spear is used for Protectorates, right ?
In this case it's perfectly fine, since the spear also shows the technological difference (a guy with a plain spear when we'll soon be able to build World Destroyers).
At first (quick) glance, I thought it was an ancient Greek-style helmet, didn't realise it was a dove on its back until I looked closely.
FWIW, agree with those calling for it to be changed - the swords pointing in different directions (perhaps in slightly different colours, one green - symbolising you have the green light to declare war - and one orange-ish, symbolising that others have a justification to declare on you?), perhaps. Or how about a bigger target symbol - by itself, without doves, dead or otherwise - in different colours?

It looks awkward yes. It's probably getting changed though.

As others have said, it's not that it's that bad, it just doesn't fit together so well with the other icons.
Maybe simplify the design a bit, make the dove gold, add a green tick or red cross behind it, or as an overlay over the top.

That is not a space dove, that is an ordinary dove. A space dove would be drawn in the icon style of Stellaris.
It does look fantastically out of place, doesn't it? Let's hope they can throw something else together before launch. It's a tiny thing, I guess, but then again icons are pretty important considering how often you have to look at them.
I didn't realize it was a dove until I was told that's what it was and looked at it really hard and even then it doesn't read very well. Its far messier/noisier a design than the other icons, that's all.
So I asked my wife (has no idea what stellaris even is), which symbol means what in the context of empire relationsships and she said:
Trade (Trade)
They hate each other (rival)
they like each other (alliance)
they defend each other (def pact)
you cant trade across the border (closed borders)
that animal Luke kills, to get warm...uhm..they want to murder each other for energy? Also, why is there a worm growing out of one of them? (casus belli)

I find the dove a bit confusing to look at. I've tried squinting. I wish I had the alive version of the dove for reference. That would be clearer.
The symbol looks more like an EU4 icon to me, but that just might be me. I think the symbology of the symbol could work but it definitely needs to be Stellarisfied and cleaned up.
Propably too much detail. I mean people have issues making out teh Crosshair on the one dead dove. And more then 1-3 colors per Icons does not seem to work out.
