The AI mercs are plagued with a bug that keeps them from participating in war efforts. They just sit idle in a random home province doing nothing. Sometimes they will have regular units with them like they are trying to form a stack but they never seem to manage this merge.
If you reload, the Mercs will sometimes move a province or two but then go back to just idling.
This is very common and you can see it happening in every game just as soon as someone starts using mercs.
This is also a major cause of the debt for the AI because they are fighting wars at half strength while still paying premium ducats for mercs who do nothing.
I’m surprised there hasn’t been more complaints about it, for myself this is a game breaking bug. The most enjoyable part of this game for me and probably for many others is fighting challenging wars against a competent AI opponent. Idle AI mercs removes a lot of the challenge and thus any satisfaction of victory.
There is also a bug where the AI will have 1 and 2 stacks spread across their whole country but won’t form them into a stack unless you reload the save.
The other issue I have is with the new small standing armies. I understand this is about militarization only when at war but this makes the AI to easy to beat. Strategically it makes little sense to me why an OPM would delete over half their troops on day 1. Manpower is very valuable at the beginning of the game, and if they get into a war they are going to have to use half of their reserves just to get to force limit, but they will most likely be stack wiped and sieged before that happens.
Sorry to complain, I really like most of the changes that emperor brought, it just seems like the squeaky wheel gets the oil around here so I thought making a little noise might help.
