Hi,
There is an ingame mode I tried with friends recently. It's a lot of fun, but sadly there are weird quirks in it. I'm talking about the little known option for players to play the same country in multiplayer.
It is an option in-game, so I suppose unlike how it is presented in Stellaris, it should be supported. Plus I'm sure many players who like playing with friends, but who dislike playing against them, while still finding the game too easy after a time since they can dominate the world with their friends, would find this very interesting.
Here are some of the quirks I find in that game mode that I would like fixed.
Events appear only to the guest :
Basically, from what I can gather, when you play in coop in the same country, the computer "thinks" each player is his own country. However the host is a semi-observer. It means that for the purpose of events, usually only the guest gets them. The host, can still give orders to units and take decisions, but he receives almost no events.
I think, like the other decisions, the events should appear for both players, but the first player to answer them would disable the decision for the other.
Alternatively, but this would probably be harder to implement, it would be cool to have a kind of rick paper cisor game when player's decision on events do not align.
Some mandatory events happen two times :
Despite what I said above about events not appearing for the host, there are still some, in my experience, that appear two times. Namely, refusing a call to arms will apply two times the trust penalty and when the Emperor of China asks for tribute, it will be payed two times or else, even though one player paid the tribute, the other player refusal to pay will incurr a loss of trust from the emperor.
There are most likely other instances. For example, I'm going to try an Aztec game in coop and I hope doom isn't increased two times in some events...
When the guest crashes, the host is left playing with the AI :
That might have been my most bizarre experience I ever had with EUIV. I was playing with a friend with a particularly bad internet and his game crashed. Without thinking, I clicked on the option for his play to be resumed by the AI. Suddenly, my decisions (like building units) where cancelled and my country started to live on its own. I was in effect playing in coop with the AI!
Actually, this is so awesome that I guess it shouldn't be removed, but it's still weird. I guess if I didn't activated the "AI play" when my friend crashed it would have been okay. Still I had to mention it.
So, I really hope those quirks are fixable and that the devs will take an interest to this game mode. Any other players tried it or want to try it?
