As the title says, I’d like to be able to rely on this diplomatic feature as opposed to micromanaging my diplomats. Currently the diplomats will either stop improving relations with Outraged Countries prematurely or fail to target the most relevant states, aiming for those not even on the cusp of a coalition. If I have an active coalition against my state these diplomats should be focusing on coalition members first and influencing them to max relations.

I seem to be the only person who likes the way it works now so let me try to sketch out why...

I would rather my diplomats improve opinion a bit with many nations (so I might be able to avoid a general coalition) than have a diplomat tied up for ages on a single country which may still hate me (but most other countries still hate me). For me it has reduced micromanagement because I can now just wait for the automatic cycle when the target picked isn’t ideal.

That said, I wouldn’t really mind if it were changed.

I hear you. On the flip side if I’m taking diplomatic ideas I have better and more diplomats. I see them targeting states far above 0 relations (and not in a coalition) as opposed to those who are already in one however.

I generally keep one diplomat on “Target Neighbors” after the early game for general relations upkeep.

I have no problem with it not maxing relations with each outraged country, but I frequently see it my diplomat sitting idle when there are numerous nations which I have significant AE and negative relations with. It should never be idle as long as there is anyone with any AE against you whose relations can be improved.
