Sounds awesome! We could start as amphibians (since they first appeared around this time) and eventually colonize land with the emergence of amniotic eggs, and then experience the formation of Pangaea 110,000,000 years later. Yes, we definitely need a campaign from the middle Paleozoic through to the present day. Who knows, maybe we'll have a dinosaur empire?

On topic: I think 1600 is too early for an end date. After all dynastic politics continued well into 19th century. Let's make 1918 the end date and the start date should be at least late Roman Empire (better yet Roman Monarchy pre-Republic).

How would a Rome -> today megacampaign go?
EU:Rome -> Dark ages game -> Ck series -> main EU series -> Vic series -> HoI series -> Post-WWII game?
Would that cover the entire timeframe?

Well I suppose you could always fill in the gaps with non-Paradox games. Would be a monumental undertaking though.

Unfortunately a mod of CK2 wouldn't be able to model the dark ages as well as a new game. The dark ages was a much different time period.

The time period of the game is set in the dark ages. But I wasn't aware that things in the early middle ages were so different. Feudalism was present in Europe before 1066 and there were plenty of other systems that resembled it closely enough to make do for the purposes of a mod that extended the time period.

I know that myself and many others would like Paradox's next major title to be a Dark Ages game, but the problem is finding sources for such a massive database undertaking. A number of CK II's early (11th century) characters are semi-legendary, simply because accurate information about them is nonexistent. This is generally the case between the Fall of Rome and the High Middle Ages, so making a game that covered that era (or at least most of it) would be incredibly difficult outside of the major ruling dynasties.

i think it should end at end of ww2 when america defetead hitler, since he was the last feudal king of europe its a natural end point.

I for one don't have a problem with 3/4 of the map being ruled by fictional characters at 800ad. Heck, start a 1066 game and by 1100 the entire map will be ruled by fictional characters all over anyway. Britain, France, visigothic Spain, lombard Italy and of course ERE are fairly well-documented thanks to numerous chronicles. The further north and east, the more foggy it gets, but it's not like there are tons of lineages on gallic and germanic chiefs for a Roman game to begin with. As long as names and tribal locations are plausible (no soviet baronies this time, pretty please?), I don't really care if there was indeed such a guy ruling Uppsala at 673ad, or old boy Snorre made him up after a night of too much ale. All those semi- and legendary kings are too cool to pass, and screw the dating.

I'm surprised nobody's responded to the OP's reference to the Warring States period in Japan. Expanding the timespan so much is one thing, doing that and expanding the map all the way to Japan would be insane.

The calling for exorbitant late or early end and start dates sounds very unrealistic in my ears. The only possibility for an earlier start date I see is to expand the game, including parts of the 10th or 9th century.

This would be a possibility in case we get a Pagan DLC. In this times, the Christianisation of Europe was full in process.

I'd just like to point out that many of the historical characters already exist in the game as dead people if you look back at the ancestors of those who are alive in 1066 (St Andrew is even in there, despite living in the first century CE). All we need are accurate year by year borders along with appropriate cultures and it could be modeled well. The only real things we need are more melting pot events, cultures and titular kingdoms. Once the pagan DLC hits, most of the work needed for barbarian kingdoms will be sorted.
