I've familiar with Evangelical only in reference to the contemporary American Christian "denomination", which is very specifically not what the current Protestant is meant to represent.
"Evangelical" was Luther's preferred term for the movement he helped start and many Lutheran organizations have the word "Evangelical" in their title. Also "Evangelical Union" is the term the game uses to refer to the "Protestant side" during the League War fwiw

Their impact was undeniable, but most of their impact was limited to Bohemia for the bigger part.
Try implementing that in a way that makes sense in a sandbox game.
The "sandbox" isn't much of a problem, considering that the game starts in 1444 when the Hussites were already established in Bohemia. The problem is granularity, i.e. that "Hussite" would be a religion for relatively few provinces. On the other hand, considering that the majority of Bohemia and Moravia was Hussite until 1620, it would cover more provinces than several religions that are in the game - certainly more than Jewish and Zoroastrian, possibly more than Vajrayana and Ibadi.

The difference being that these two are being treated as standalone religions instead of denominations.

The actual reason it's "Protestant" and "Reformed" is probably that they had Protestant in the game from the start and added Reformed later, and not changing "Protestant" because it would seem awkward (I'm not sure if this was during the timeframe of EUIV or in earlier games).

It was called Protestant and Reformed in EU1 I think.

Lutheranism and Calvinism would be horrible names. The Protestant movement can appear anywhere, and at any time. Add CK2 converted games and it gets even shakier.

Terms Reformed and Anglicanism are fine, though I am for renaming Protestant to Evangelical (Luther used it, and many people in the period used it). Coptic should also be renamed to Miaphesyte IMO.

Fair enough, I stand corrected.

From what I heard EU1 or/and EU2 also had the Counter-Reformed religion @_@

From the new development journal, we will have Anglicanism as a new religion for England. Is it suitable to call the previous "Protestantism" Protestantism? Because Anglican and Reformed(Calvinism) belong to Protestantism, the "Protestantism" in EU4 actually is Lutheranism.

The father (Protestantism) has three sons, Lutheranism,Calvinism and Anglicanism. It's very weird to put the father (Protestantism), one son (Anglicanism) and Tom (Reformed) in the same level.

I strongly recommend we change the "Protestantism" to "Lutheranism", "Reformed" to "Calvinism". I am really obsessive about the name! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(:(

There are a lot more protestant faiths than just Lutheranism and I don't believe the Church of England is a protestant church. In fact, it specifically calls itself a reformed catholic church in the time period.

So yes it is extremely suitable to call the previous "Protestantism" Protestantism because....the Anglican Church doesn't belong to Protestantism. Otherwise people are going to wonder why Methodism or Evangelical or Baptist churches (all which exist within the EU4 timeframe but are not represented if you change Protestantism to Lutheranism) aren't in the game.

I would assume another reason to use Protestant and Reformed instead of ie Lutheranism and Calvinism is an explicit intent to avoid naming religions after persons in a game of alternate/sandbox history. More generic names, or dynamic names based on where the religions spawn, is more in line with that spirit. The latter, however, would be unnecessarily confusing.

Note that the event spawning Protestantism says "a monk in (national capital) has for some time expressed deep concerns", quite clearly indicating Martin Luther while intentionally avoiding to actually name him.
That doesn't always work though, we may as well say that Anglicanism is not sandbox too. What if some other guy from a completely different country decided to do the same stuff as Henry VIII.? What am I trying to point out is that sandbox-ish logic doesn't always work and that some events should be hardcoded. For example that it always happens that Luther nails his theses in Wittenberg? I think it would guarantee that the Lutherans don't get wiped out immediately like they do now.

I've familiar with Evangelical only in reference to the contemporary American Christian "denomination", which is very specifically not what the current Protestant is meant to represent.
I am afraid that you are not familiar enough, for example the Lutheran Church in Slovakia is called Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Slovakia. Lutherans are oftenly referred to as Evangelicals.

Besides I think that Evangelical is the best choice here, even though I wouldn't mind if it were called Lutheran, since it's mainly supposed to represent the Lutherans.
