Plus the Republicans were called the "Rojos" so it really makes no sense to have Franco's Spain be colored Red.

I'm inclined to agree. It should probably be a brownish color. The reddish-pink that Spain has is almost the same as Britain's reddish-pink. Now, while it isn't a HUGE problem, I imagine this could be changed.

How about yellow? Why not britain blue instead red?

The US holds priority on the blue color (the US Army always referred to itself as blue in their various color coded war plans), and I think confusion of American and British colors has a greater in-game repercussions than confusion of Spanish and British colors.

I'll suggest something radical.
What if in 1936 you have "Spain" and its the Republican Spain colour. Then, you have a civil war. During that civil war give Franco's side a colour...who cares what colour. Then if Franco's side wins, they rule.....*drum-roll*....Spain!

Whichever side wins should be the same colour and it should have the same name. Not hard to do and much better than having Nationalist Spain in red, or Legionary Romania, or Radical Yugoslavia. :)

IMHO:

rep. spain: dark red color, like burgundy or somewhere near the soviet dark red. as the republicans received plenty of support in men and materiel from the USSR.

nat. spain: somewhere on the grey scale. they got plenty of support from germany, grey is underused, nat. spain is unlikely to become hostile to germany and italy, and after WWII, francoist spain was for all intents and purposes the last fascist regime.

post-SCW spain: yellow or bronze. the same color palette as HOI 3 spains. either one works.

democratic spain (in the event of democrat vs communist follow-up civil war): light or dark blue, whichever is more photogenic and farther away from the french blue.

communist spain (in the event of democrat vs communist follow-up civil war): same as rep spain.

What about orange? Brown is always so ugly...

Or better, depending on who wins the SCW it turns ligth red (so that it cant be confused with the UK) or dark blue (so that it cant be confused with the USA)

PS. Blue was the colour of the shirts of some troops (the "falangistas", spanish fascists) which fought in Francos side, so blue has been the colour that always identified the spanish fascists (thus, the "Blue Division", which was the 250th Werhmatch infantry division)

According to historic color codes:

- a democratic Rep Spain should wear purple, since purple was the color introduced in the Spanish flag after the 1931 revolution to create the Republic. Besides, IIRC no one uses purple in the game.
- Nationalist Spain should be blue, since blue was the colour of the spanish falangists.
- a communist Rep Spain should be reddish.

Whatever it is, I feel like, just generally, the democracies have more vibrant colours, Fascists have more muted colours, and the Communists have some version of Red or another.

Though I am liking Agus92's idea the best.

.
I like it, but the blue would have to be noticeably different from France's blue. Perhaps a dark blue?

Rep Spain should be pink/reddish, Nat Spain Yellow.

Why pink?

And reddish... while it does make sense, the colour that makes the Republic distinctive is purple. And since said colour hasn't been used (at least as much as red), I think that should be the one.

My first choice would be have whoever is Spain be its historic yellow color. Franco revolts he can be whatever shade of blue, the Republicans revolt they can be purple (if that somehow happened) and any other revolts can be whatever standard color. The government side would stay yellow. Once the civil war is over then back to whoever runs Spain being yellow.

The Republican revolution already happened in 1931. The Nationalist's uprising was to overthrow the republicans, and restore monarchy (In theory only, because they did it 30 years later).

No particular reason for pink.
Honestly I was more thinking about Nat Spain, as that's the country that is more likely to survive (I think).
