The current stress mechanic with tanks vs AA vehicles and similar systems is far too extreme. In most of the battles I have done so far, I have seen both enemy and friendly vehicles routinely forced to flee due to AA fire. I have seen armies of flak vehicles routinely route large tank forces just by spraying them down with 20mm.

The stress system makes a certain amount of sense when tanks are hit by non-penetrating fire from artillery or AT guns etc. These weapons might pose a certain amount of risk, and depending on the situation, the tank might decide to fall back if it feels the threat is too high.

20-30mm AA fire is not, generally speaking, a threat to tanks. Especially at ranges in excess of 100m. You might track a tank with it, or knock out the gun barrel etc. But It makes little sense for a tank to flee in abject terror every time they get hit by it.

TL:DR

The current effect is simply too strong. Needs to be toned down significantly with regards to heavy armor.

Tanks don't flee in terror. It's tankers that make them do that, coz they do get scared and do get stressed by constant banging against the tin they're in. It might need a very slight adjustment, but nothing more.

Right, except that isnt what tankers do. Light dinging from AA fire is nothing to get panicky over. The current modeling very nearly makes it more logical to have a army of AA vehicles instead of tanks.

Do you base it on personal experience or have a source at hand?

Are you basing your opinion on either of those things? Or are you just assuming the game is correct.

The entire point of tanks is to advance under fire that would normally kill something like infantry. They are pointless if they can be routed by light 20mm fire, which they were designed to be proof against. If AA is this effective at routing tanks, the armies of the world would simply be fleets of Tunguskas.

I'm pretty sure multiple 20+mm rounds hitting your tank is going to be slightly louder than a "light dinging".

Consider for a moment that most AA is 20mm. Many rapid dings agaisnt a tank is indicative of either machine gun or auto cannon fire, neither of which is a major threat. And yes, at medium to long ranger 20mm fire would be light dinging, if not also at short range.

This is just a game and a lot of things are abstracted. I am not saying things are right or not. Real life is just different.

And I did serve with mechanised unit and can assure you that being hit by anything, when you are in a tank is... unique experience.

Abstraction should be in line with IRL as much as possible. 20mm doom spam is not in line with IRL. Were it, tanks would have been gone long ago in favor of the rapid fire auto tank.

Tanks should fall back under Artillery and AA fire, but losing control under it is kind of a bit too much IMO.
Under AT guns...okay, but not under "smaller threats".

We had this problem back in EE where ZSU-57-2 was able to drive off tanks since they have longer range than tank and deal massive morale damage.

Though I haven't really seen this in SD44, I observed tank against AA gun the tank actually suffers very little stress damage from 20mm flak fire.

On the other hand, the stress damage value of .30 cal (.30cal!) might want to be looked at. A halftrack blob was able to drive right up to a pair of StuG and force both to surrender. American HT also seems to out stress my armored cars and halftrack with auto cannons.
