One thing I really liked from Cities XL was the farms. You could produce numerous different crops, which all had different looks on the map. But the most important thing was farms actually looked like farms. You could make them interesting shapes and have them take up different parcel sizes- farms could be much, much bigger than normal industries. Also, crops didn't look like horrible orange blobs on the map. I can't stress how terrible farms look in CS. Please make farms less crap with this industry focused expansion!

I don't think it is. Those sure look better, but if you look closely, all those farms are similar dimensions to what we have in game. And they're super tiny. The only thing that changed is that the orange blob has been replaced with real textures. They are all still perfectly rectangular, and small, nothing bigger than 4x2 squares, which is a ridiculous 32m x 16m. When have you ever seen a farm even 1/10 of that size? The ones that look bigger are just repetitions of the the same farm type. There are no circular farms, no different shapes, no large farms. Just teeny tiny blocks =/
But they do look great, so there's that at least!

And just look at how much traffic those farms are generating. There should be almost none from farmlands of that size, but in that screenshot there are hundreds of cars. The proportions are all just completely wrong.

The ploppable farmland seen in that screenshot are all larger than the standard 4x4 we currently have (smallest tree farms in forestry are like 8x8). Different shapes would be nice but this just is a sort of blocky game.

We got to see the initial two farm plots in the twitch video. Pretty small but like you say, later ones are bigger. Big thing of note is they all have a bunch of visual options that you can switch between. The fruit orchard jumping between different skins for different fruits was great (all the same output though). They also have an option for a greenhouse.

That's still way to small. Single farms are often as large as entire towns IRL.

Here's an example of RL Farms- see how large the farms are relative to the towns? And how little traffic there is from these farms?

Here's what they look like in cities XL, released 10 years ago now. See how close they are to actual reality compared to what we have here? Skylines needs to do better than this. There's almost no excuse given how old XL is now that Skylines still hasn't gotten this right. Farms are a hugely important aspect of the landscape, it would be nice if we could finally get them right.

This shouldn't even be hard to do. There's several ways to implement this. If they can't get it to work with normal zoning methods for whatever reason they can always fall back onto what they did with parklife and allow us to create farms via districts.

Same reason people disagree with my post about what real life farms look like, because apparently posting a picture of what farms -actually- look like and how big they are means I'm wrong. And that the Cities XL farming system is much more representative of reality, which it so clearly is. They want a different way of doing something. I don't want to plop 4x8 or 8x8 farms. I want a better system than that.

You're missing the point entirely. Cities XL is a bad game. But the farming system in that game is infinitely better than what we have in Skylines. Just because the game is bad doesn't mean it doesn't have ideas that are worth drawing upon. What Skylines has for farming is a joke, there's no way around it. And farms are hugely important in making a landscape look good. This is one of the few things XL did well.

Shame on me for wanting Skylines to be a better game, sorry for pointing out something that can be improved.

Its not that bad. The ploppable fields fit right next to each other cleanly so if you make a block of them they look like one big field. This is just the way they have to do it to make it work within the simulation. That last bit is very important to me at and I'm sure others as well. I'm ok with having to fit them together to get the appearance of a larger field if it means full simulation interaction.

Its not that bad. The ploppable fields fit right next to each other cleanly so if you make a block of them they look like one big field. This is just the way they have to do it to make it work within the simulation. That last bit is very important to me at and I'm sure others as well. I'm ok with having to fit them together to get the appearance of a larger field if it means full simulation interaction.

They certainly do not have to do it this way to have it work in the simulation. Just have the simulation part tied to the building on the farm, which must be attached near the road. The shape and placement of the farm and the building can be done either:
a) the same way we do parks and decorations via the district tool, with the building being plopable inside the district on a road if it can't be auto generated for some reason
b) the cities XL way where you set the boundaries of the farm with roads and the building is auto generated on the road.

Boom, farms of realistic size and fully simulated. Problem solved. Not these tiny plopables. I have no idea why you think doing it the way it's currently implemented is required to have the farms participate in the global simulation, because it shouldn't be.

Also, the traffic from the screenshot is just out of control. These tiny farms should be generating essentially no traffic, yet there's a gigantic backup from the highway in the screenshot because of the farms.

Now the plopables do look way better than what we had before, but that's really not saying much ;) If we have a chance to get a better system in place the time to do it is now while they are still working on the DLC.
