Will definitely give this game a spin. EU2 had its perks and playing a truly different nation rather than generic european power 16 was one of them.

Did I miss mention of a projected release date?

Yes, you missed it - the release is scheduled 'before Christmas'.

Its like they are making the EU3 everybody wanted!! :p

Most likely not. For me EU3 is a great step from EU2 and I find it much more fun to play. Nevertheless I do like EU2 very much for being just what it is and I am very glad to see this game expand on that. :D

Seems like many gamers expect just minor changes when strategy games evolve. It was the same with Civilization series. As soon as a new game is released there is a loud group complaining about the game changing for the bad. After a while most of these people get acustomed with the new game and stops complaining. What people really want (this is just my theory ;) ) is an EXPANSION on the old game. Just doing minor changes but keeping the game as almost the same.

Indeed. Goal had never been redoing EU3 with Europa Engine. OTOH, I don't know exactly what is really a "minor change". And see here. There is room for both.
