I'm away from my desktop for the next couple months and only have a 3-4 year old laptop. The integrated graphics card it has (ATI Radeon X1250) apparently does not support Shader Model 3.0, which CK2 tells me I need in order to play. Is there any way around this? Can I play CK2 without Shader Model 3.0?

The only possible way would be to use an emulator such as swiftshader. Despite its name it will make things VERY slow, however; in EU3 it was barely playable. CK2 may be a bit better being a less demanding game.
