Hah, that's funny, I don't think I've ever seen Morocco partitioned between two Powers.

Britain even conquered Melilla, but left Taza. But that's okay. It's gotten even better:

Also, Prussia dropped out of Great Powers for a bit, so the German minors are a bit of a grab bag.

Yeh that can happen more often than people would think. Prussia has a good chance of getting overwhelmed by Jacobin revolts in the early game, which can cause it some major long term problems.

Also, that map looks so weird to me. I haven't played Vanilla in 5 years or so.

Trouble with the exercise is that Saxony (and all other German minors with the exception of Bavaria) are two weak and surrounded by GP's to really do anything. Saxony being landlocked makes things even worse.
The only way to make headway is to game the system by using a much bigger ally to conquer land for you which is incredibly gamey.
Sure you can try to cling onto GP status but by the time the 1870's come, Japans gonna westernise, Italy's gonna unify etc, and prestige alone, ain't gonna cut it.

Looking at Saxony specifically the most fun I see that can be had would be to play Prussia/Austria off on each other, its historical and if you're lucky you might be able to grab Silesia or Bohemia.
After that though, I don't really know, you'll still be landlocked, you won't have enough power to unify Germany until 1900 and by that you'll be so far behind theres no point.

IMO Italian states are much more fun than German states because theres a much more equal playing field.

I would say that Hanover is in a decent position also. It is relatively large and has good Pop and its decently easy to become a GP with any nation that has good literacy with the Aesthetics tree and a focus on Colonizing Africa. You could beat up on Denmark to get their little part of Ghana for an Africa headstart or do the usual Oman or Sokoto conquest to get prime African land.

I'd agree. An active Hanover is actually a natural enemy of Denmark, as I discovered in my Seventeen game. It just makes sense for the two of them to fight. Especially since the UK has an alliance with Hanover at the start, so there's even protection for Hanover there. You just have to learn to be happy with tripping over German minors at home.
