It appears that AHD is way more difficult for Prussia. Soon after start (just a few months) Prussia's military rank goes down to 20 and the amount of brigades one can built drops to what you already have. Then when you can build something you have to raise taxes almot to the max for all classes to keep out of the red. What gives?

Paradox went all nout with nerfs. In some cases it works (China) and sometimes it doesn't (Prussia) just give it some time patches wll fix alot of the problems as will mods like PDM paradox games/exspansions are always buggy upon release.

Just stopped playing Prussia using the civil war start date and I was plenty powerful enough. Made NGF in 10 years (without going to war with austria), would have done so in 7 but I wanted luxembourg.

I had a very different experience than OP..
On day one I had a swift war against Denmark.
In 1837-1838 I fought against France (who, to be fail was seriously weakened after a war with Russia), and I annexed Elsass-Lothringen, Franche-Comté and giving one french region to Belgium.

In 1843 I was able to become NGF, a few years later, France and Russia attacked me, which might not have gone well at all if it weren't for my Ottoman and Belgian allies. WP with Russia, and humiliate France.

In 1848, immediately after the war I was able to form the German Empire. Apparently Austria had been asleep, so I stole all their spherelings through diplomacy. I'm now allied with Austria, and the game is practically won. I think I might restart with a more challenging country. :)

That said I did notice what you said about the brigades, it's no problem though, you just have to encourage some soldier promotion.

I had a good amount of success in a day 1 war against France. France doesn't start with near as large an army/mobilization pool as base version. Plus France only has Papal States in its sphere early. Not Switzerland, Sardinia, Belgium like it will 5-10 years later.

I played until 1856 (without forming germany, I play with an historical rule saying I can't form Germany until the date Bismark was appointed prime minister). I have a few remarks witch could help you.

- Cement factories are great since they are cheap, cement is in high demand and they need coal witch you have plenty
- Steel factories are great too and I would recommend you building one in all state witch can host one, but don't build all of them right away because you don't have access to enough iron to run them. (my biggest error in my first game)
- Build railroad in all Germans states, it will enable you to hold your sphere easily, try to get the earliest form of railroad before France or Austria to get enough time to build them in the Germans states.
- You can also build some in states your rivals (France, Austria) are influencing to distract them
- Don't be afraid of debt, a specially to build foreign railroad and set up factories in your country.
- You don't have enough capitalist at start to create a good industrial base fast, therefore keep switching to reactionary when you have enough money (about 70k) and go back to conservatism as fast as possible to make private project and railroad cheaper.
- Keep the military slider as high as possible to make sure your army keep a good size (you might loose a few possible brigades early but the problem will generally be resolve by 1840)
- Make sure you have enough input to run your factories, Prussia is quite poor in term of rgo resources
- Demand disarmament against France, it should solve your money problems to kick start your industry when you will have completed Germany unification.

I was going to post a thread about this actually. I don't think Prussia is all that hard actually. I went to war with Austria and was able to snatch Bohemia from them. I went to war with them again for Moravia and just as that war was wrapping up France attacking me with Russia as their ally. I thought, oh great here's the end of this game, but to my surprise France wasn't able to draw up it's innumerable army from Vanilla. I focused on wiping out two large stacks that they sent into my territory and then was able to get enough war score easily enough to take A-L. I think the reason they weren't as invincible is because money is in much shorter supply and it's difficult to have a large army smashed and for you to just order up more troops. I also don't think they mobilized either.

I have to say one thing I did notice is that getting Grosssdeutschland is going to be a lot harder because you really need to play your cards right with CBs. I asserted hegemony on them twice and took their two most industrialized provinces and they were still #5 or #6 shortly after the war. I didn't see them drop from the GP club after the typical occupy it all strategy that shuts down their industry. I might have just been impatient though because I was going to go bankrupt if I continued the war.

Actually it's quite easy with these foreign investments. For Austria try Cut down to size and humiliate (and make sure to wipe all their forces and occupy 100% so long as they don't have 100% WE) + taking provinces. You just have to be quick with getting them into your sphere before Austria become GP again. Although you can do one more war with cut down to size, 100% occupation etc. This way I kicked France to be secondary power for good :)

Read this post and was thinking forming Germany was going to be harder to form as Prussia :( Its now Oct 1840 and I am the German Empire, fastest I have ever formed the German empire and was thinking France was going to be hard to beat but they were a joke :( Make the best of it France helped me bet Austria and then I turned on them and won after that :)

1840 and you formed the german empire ???? how?

I had the same. Early war with denmark, German Pan-Nationalists jumped on holstein. Got offered to form Germany. Had hannover, luxemburg and baden in my sphere. Restore Order on wurtemberg/bavaria/saxony, rofl-stomped austria since its alliances didn't fire because it wasn't them I was declaring on. France/russia piled on me when I started demanding land from austria, stomped them with my freshly built german army and a mobilized army the size of france's. It's not greater germany but it's good enough for me. Never did like the Sphere-Austria gambit. It's 1844 and I have Alsace-Lorraine and Bohemia as well as all of germany.

With the new smaller mobilizing size of france I don't really see how Prussia will be much of a challenge. I could start a "Infamy be damned" conquest of Europe right now and I don't see anything short of massive dogpiling slowing me down.

1840 and you formed the german empire ???? how?

Day 1 attack Austria and ask France to form a alliance. Fight Austria in your own land till you bet down their army :) Also max your Influence with only Holstein to get them in your sphere by the end of this war.

After this once Holstein is in your sphere attack Denmark and win that war and get your lands back, As this is going on put all your Influence into Hanover and get them into your sphere, I find if you work on Hanover after you get Holstein that the UK will not stop you most of the time.

Now I formed NGF and attacked France after breaking the alliance and got back the lands I needed to form the German Empire. With France and Austria weaker in this version it was easy :)

Thinking about it I could have had the German Empire formed in 1839 if I did not help Belgium in a war vs Netherlands because I had the NGF formed in Nov 1838 :)

Not quite the speed record some of you have, but I have been having a very fun game as PRU the past couple of days.

Early war with DEN, take HAN and SAX via influence: NGF. Foreign investment really helps keeping your SoI safe.

BAV has become a GP, forged a humiliate CB but, they have Allied with Russia. So be it, attack anyway.

BAV mostly occupied, starting the beat back the Russians when AUS, allied with FRA, TUR, and some minors, attacks me! Luckily most of FRA's forces are off fighting Spain. Focus on finishing off Russia's armies, and get them to peace out for humiliating BAV. Manage some good victories against AUS before Spain falls and FRA brings up more troops. TUR troops start appearing in Austria too.

Around 5 years after attacking BAV, the Austrian alliance is defeated. FRA and AUS are humiliated, FRA gives up A-L, AUS admits my hegemony in Germany. The German Empire is founded in 1854.
