Playing HoI2 under "exotic" resolutions

Hi,

I want to buy a new TFT/LCD monitor and I am not sure if I could play this game on it. It's not 1280x1024 but 1440x900, so a 16:9 one and not an 4:3.

Is the game playable with other resolution than 1280x1024? Are there any restrictions regarding the resolution?

OK, I found some threads and tool to change the resolution.

My question changes to:

Can I play (somehow) without modding the game with a resolution changer utility (like: the game will be kind of stretched, or only appear in the middle of the screen, etc.)?

I play it on a native 1920x1200 (16:10), and it looks just fine. It stretches it out (but to me it doesn`t "feel" stretched). As long as you are above 1024x768 you should be fine.

With my nvidia I can even choose if I want to stretch or center the image.

No the game supports only 1 resolution. You can always play in WINDOWED mode but thats not supported.

Hello. I've just bought a new computer, with a wide screen monitor, and would therefore like to run HoI 2 DD in a different resolution than the default (I'd like to run in 1920x1200), is that possible? If not, will a patch fix this? Or is it possible that a mod can change this?

I got my new wide-monitor today , so I'll try HoI2 in the evening.

I tried the windowed mode, but didn't started to play, just the first menu... It doesn't really worked corretly, even, I had to restart my XP, because the other applications' top-right buttons (close, minimize, maximize) had a graphical problem during and after the game run.

I can't answer that on an official sense for Paradox but I think it is safe to say that the game has been out over 3 years and it has never received a way to change the video size so it is safe to assume it never will.

To play WINDOWED mode you need to do the following

Set your video to 16-bit colors
Go to the Armageddon/Doomsday desktop icon
Right click on it and select properties.
Fing the "Target" text box
Go to the end
hit space bar
type WINDOWED
click "apply"
click "ok"

run the game as normal

In the NVIDIA control panel, there is a setting for what the GPU should do when the desired screen resolution does not fit to the native screen resolution: Strech to fill (looks horrible if the ratios are different), stretch to fit (looks good or bad, depending on the stretching ratio), center (looks crisp, but with potentially large black borders) or send lower resolution and let the monitor perform the scaling. There have been various bugs with this in past driver versions, so if it does not work, upgrade your driver.

I play HoI II in stretch-to-fit mode on a 1680x1050 screen and it looks fine.

My damn graphic card doesn't supports 1440x900, so I guess I'm gonna buy a new one today.

I played 1280x768 (16:10 mode) and it worked fine, the screen was a bit stretched, due to different ratio. So no patch needed.

Let's see what happens when I finally get the 1440x900 on my new monitor.

OK, here's the result:

- on monitors native resolution (1440x900) the game worked well and it was a bit stretched, due to different aspect ratio.

- the WINDOWED mode caused an Error and the game crached



I will try the hack with the resolution, just to see, if it works properly and if there is any benefit (without any instability).

I forgot to change to 16bit color depth. With 16bit. the WINDOWED mode works -of course- perfect. It's very cooooool on my wide screen. :rofl:

I did exactly as described, and the game started in windowed mode (it said windowed in the top right corner). But all the scenarios were gone :wacko: I checked the scenario file, and they are all still there, and they do appear when I launch the game without windowed mode. Any advice?

No need, i found a way to alter the settings on my graphics card Thanks for the help though.

I had the same error with the scenarios. I (I don't know how I thought so) add more spaces between the " and WINDOWED and...worked!!
