Playing as Abyssinia strange! Help

PLaying 1.07b.

Fatmids Called an invasion claim and vassilised my whole kingdom.
This was only 40 years into the game about how could this have happened?
I thought they only had a 1 county conquest claim and holy war for a duchy?

Any simple explinations? or was this a bug?

Invasion claims count for all the territory they occupy, basically. And the taking of hte title itself as well.

Its only one county if it is a bordering region who is the same religion as them, I believe.

It does cost the Muslim ruler 500 piety to call an invasion.

So it would be wise to plot to kill or assassinate him when his piety is near 500.

To be fair though, you started as a small Christian kingdom next to one of the largest Muslim nations in the game. If it were the other way around and you were a huge christian nation and they a tiny muslim one, you would have swallowed them quickly.

Historically Abyssinia wasn't swallowed by Fatimids though- Fatimids were defeated and Baqt agreement was concluded for few hundreds of years.

I've had quite the opposite result of my Abyssinia play through. I started as Axum, pressed my claim for the Nubian county title I had, declared holy war on the Sunni emirate across the way,while helping out the Abyssinian king with the last dejure lands of his kingdom and then swore fealty to the king of abyssinia. The only way i kept off the fatimids was by paying them off once i usurped the title of Abyssinia. if you can keep your relations around 50 or so the likelyhood of them invading drops drasticly. Sometimes though you just got to luck out and hope that the seljuk and fatmids pick on byzantine alot

If it were 40 years, you have played well. Normally, the Fatimids have conquered whole eastern Africa after 20-25 years. In my lst game, it werent the Fatimids though. It were the Seljukds^^...

Yeah that whole region is really difficult if you don't bring a strong head for politics. Best way to ensure survival is to gain marriage alliances with as many of the catholics and orthdox as you can. Otherwise you're just asking to die... also there's no shame in having to use your chancellor to spread desent even if he doesn't have the best skills.
