Playing a Non-European Colonizer.

Trade maps to get Egypt. Go to war with the Mamelukes and take Alexandria and MA; it is much easier if the Mamelukes are fighting in the north, west, or both when you go in. Build a galley fleet at Alexandria, buy MA from Algiers, and then go fight the Spanish when they are busy in another war early in the 16th century. With luck they will be allied to Portugal and you can get both sets of maps and that wonderful early shipyard + CoT combination. I've gotten virtually all of the West Indies with Nubia and a good number using Tibet.

Well, that could be defined as a little bit gamey, couldn't it? I guess he is locking for tactics on a more realistic sense, like in which places to invest in his neighboorhood, not around the globe (errrr, I mean the flat earth )

We'll I had a little set back, thought I had saved but apparently I didn't. Which is odd as I make it a habbit to save after ever successful colonization in India and I had expanded my holdings a bit by then. Oh well.

But it turned out for the best. Averted war with the Mughals by making a RM with Transoxania(which had started the war). So I kept my two afghan provinces.

Its now 1554 and I've colonized the whole of southern India which was touch and go, especially with those wars between Delhi and Vijayangar(or how ever its spelled), though I did manage to make out with one of their provicnes givening me a and link with my new southern provinces.

All of India and Ceylon is in my hands, though Ceylon and Palakamedi are just level one colonies as something amazing happened. I got not one but TWO conqusitadors in the 1530's! Explored Sumatra with that(unfortuneatly havn't been able to trade maps any further). And setting up colonies there was a more important priority then Ceylon or Palakamedi. Still not certain if the Portuguese have showed up there yet. I'm hoping not.

Up to 18 province, will have 22 when coloniaing Sumatra and India/Ceylon is compleate. Looking at Trade 3 in 1559. Then I'll go to Infra 5(which sould be done in the late 1500's). And after that naval 11 and Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia.

Looks good so far. Try to get Jakarta and Sunda ASAP. They are both good provinces, Jakarta especially, and if you leave them up for grabs much longer they will be taken. Sometimes even China will set up a colony there. In any case, securing the Indian coast was a major victory. Congratulations!

Focus on economical techs. You have plenty of high-valued goods in a lot of provinces, so raising PE/TE is the way to counter the inborn tech-advantage of the latin europeans.

The trick involving revolting natives is a very good one, (ab)use of it.

In wars against Portugal, conquer as much TPs as possible. When you get a peace offer from them, burn all TPs that you won't receive. In that way, this'll push them back, and if they colonize again, this'll do more warscore for you in another war without you needing to sail across half-the-world to get victory points.
Also in wars, patience pays : the AI too often sends too small armies that can get crushed (sometimes, repeatedly) to increase warscore. And every naval victory may mean more maps !

What do you use to view the monarch files? Worried I got stuck with a 1-2-2 eternal and I want to be sure.

That one dip rating really hurts, getting a whooping 10 relation points with a personal gift.

Open them with any text editor, like NotePad. Just make sure you don't check the "Always use the program to open such files" checkbox.

Luckly its not a enternal monarch, just till 1716. After that they're all pretty decent, no lower then 3. Thats like a century away though and diploannexing Malacca is going to be difficult in the mean time.

Took a peek at the rest of the world and its pretty interesting.

France is no more. Looks like Orleans delt the final blow and the rest of France being a play ground for Aragon(still around and colonizing) and Sweden.

Magdeburg is the dominet North German Power. And Lithuania streaches from The Danube to the Hills of Moscow.

Plus China is colonizing. Which is good as I havn't got a conquistador in a while and that will allow me to explore some.

I love playing out of Europe. Always looks more interesting when I'm not there. If you notice that is the Knights in Mantua, Milan, and Piemonte as well as a bit in France.

Probably slightly easier with one of the moslim powers. They're in a better tech grouping then the Hindus iirc.
