Why is no one else updating their histories? Just curious.

I am a mysterious man, hidden in the shadows, holder of secrets. To allow something as important as my history to be spread across the forums would ensure the complete destruction of WW as we know it.

Why the lack of activity between Casinao Royale and Werwolves on Holiday, Kriszo?
Dunno, not even visited the forums much those days. And games were much more chaotic those days, I enjoy the new games more. And maybe lack of success. But mainly I think I just got bored with untrackable amounts and qualities of new roles every game.

Christ. What the hell are you doing back?

Anyway, I know this may not be the thread for it, but how are things going around here lately?
In many ways I never left ;) Just because I don't play doesn't mean I don't observe.

Last February, I was in despair over the regrettable devolution that WW had suffered on this forum. In what turned out to be my last game, I was double-crossed by another player, who turned out to be on my side -- I had no idea that he was good, and he had no idea that I was a pretty powerful goodie. He lied and said he had scanned me to get me lynched. For what? He was lynched the next day, of course -- so all he achieved is that he got me killed. It crippled any chance of the villagers winning.

It was pretty disheartening to see how lifeless the game had become -- and so many of the recurring players were Young Turks, guys who had joined the community long after the game had developed out of those early, awkward, fun stages. Some good guys in that group, but very few were bona fide veterans. I thought the community could use a shake-up to jolt it out of the rut it was in, and so demanded that the player who double-crossed me be punished -- just to set a precedent that we as a community could police ourselves. My demand was universally rejected -- I grossly overestimated how much influence I could exert in the community. I thought that my tenure and notoriety would persuade some to at least try to negotiate a resolution to my demand, but only one player supported this idea.

When I saw that my efforts to enforce some standards around here were doomed to failure, I lost hope in the ability of this community to improve its lot. So I bequeathed to the community the gift of its own subforum, where unlimited WW threads abounded, and then I retired, never to return again.

But you are here. And since you are here, why not join in and play a game?
I am keenly aware of Ian Fleming's advice, "never say never again." And things do look better -- I am seeing a trajectory of improvement. But to answer your question, no. By the way, what is your schema for how a WW game should be played? You weren't around for the heyday of WW. Ask AOK. 11 how WW today compares to WW of, say, late 2006.
Who the heck are you?

*gulp*

I hope you were happy with my "grumpy chief Ironhead" theme for the Wolf Totem game.

The game is as fun as it's ever been. Nostalgia blinds people. I understand getting sick of playing the game, just like I can't keep playing Starcraft 24/7. I need a break from time to time too. The excuse that the game isn't as good as it used to be is a tired and old one that holds no water. As much as I enjoy playing games with the vets that are still around here, I've always ALWAYS hated that stupid attitude about the game getting worse.

Who the heck are you?

marty99 is one of those new players that replaced the vets who were too busy complaining to play the game. I would argue that he is a better player than many of those vets. I wouldn't want to lose him even if it meant every single old vet who used to like the game came back. He makes the game fun, rather than yet another place to call the same people you hate idiots and then meta fight them.

You'll come around eventually. If you stay here long enough, you'll come back. ;)

By the way, what is your schema for how a WW game should be played?
It differs from game to game, but I must always be active. (Heck, I've got EURO telling me that I spam too much) I hate inactive players. I try to get rid of them as soon as possible. I always prefer to analyze also. It is no fun to just sit there and do nothing. Admittedly, the one game I won was a game where I sat and sent protection orders, but it wasn't that fun. I was excited about the win, but the game where I was the lone seer/JL was much more fun.

A bit hinges on my RP character also. Like in the current Lite game, I'm RP'ing as a baddie. I won't say any more about that though.

I'm also planning on making a new, bigger, not bolded, more detailed day voting/night hunting analysis. I can only hope it will help.

You weren't around for the heyday of WW. Ask AOK. 11 how WW today compares to WW of, say, late 2006.

No, I wasn't there, but I've read a few games. It does seem like that time was more analytical, more active, and more fun.

Who the heck are you?

He is marty99. Vote count hater extraordinaire. He even bumped Johan out of my sig.

Edit: emu'd twice. How about that.

Believe it or not, despite that long long list of flaws he's actually fun to play with. Well, trying to get rid of "inactive" people is almost unforgivable, but other than that...

No, I wasn't there, but I've read a few games. It does seem like that time was more analytical, more active, and more fun.

There are just as many people using analasys as there were back then, and there were just as many inactive people. Only back then, being inactive meant "hiding" and not using analasys meant "going with the other guy's argument". It's the way it always will be: a few people arguing over the best lynch while everyone else makes votes depending on who they think has the best argument. That's how this game is played now and how it was played back then. The difference is you weren't there back then to be able to say "why aren't ALL 17 players coming up with their own long posts detailing exactly what the village should do while nobody agrees with anybody on anything, nothing gets done, and the village gets steamrolled?"

Besides WW is fun. Every game you go through and read is fun. Those games aren't any better than our games, Nostalgia blinds. Wait a couple years and read through our games now, it will seem just as fun.

I welcome Ironhead back, and I'd like to preemtively say I'm sorry he didn't want to stay but all those things he said weren't true and I hope we don't end up with only 10 people willing to play the big WW game because Ironhead demanded that only those who have a history of killing themselves and other villagers uselessly deserve to play the game.
