In a single-player campaign, if you find yourself playing an underage character, you should - in the name of gameplay, since during a regency all your interactions with the game are gated on the opinions of a possibly-malevolent NPC and thus you may not be able to play the game for up to sixteen years - be offered the option to switch to a different landed member of your dynasty without voiding Ironman.

"You are in a bad situation and you need to focus on getting out of it." is potentially compelling gameplay. "You are in a bad situation and can do nothing but hope your regent either likes you, or hates you enough to murder you." is not.

Giving more freedom to the player is a good idea, but without voiding Ironman is not.
If you think regency are bad gameplay, suggest how to improve them, but asking a free pass to avoid them should obviously invalidate the save for Ironman.

If you think regency are bad gameplay, suggest how to improve them, but asking a free pass to avoid them should obviously invalidate the save for Ironman.
That other dynasty member is almost certainly in a weaker long-term position than the one who's in a regency.

I mean, if your regented character is the Fylkir and King of Svithjod...

Lets be honest here, the issue isn't a peaceful regent, it's the ones which dislike you and do nothing (just leaving the factions to build up without letting you bribe or anything).

And it would take us players no time at all for us to just "body hop" to the next guy in the succession line (likely the brother of the late ruler) and kill the disliked kid or force him to abdicate via faction, thereby restoring the player to full power and bypassing the whole point of regency (being difficult to play and a boon for vassals).

So no, this'd not be all that great a thing. Next time keep a space piece of land and hand it off to your regent if he/she is blocking your plans. If it's a she and you can't land her...well figure that out yourself, I'm not going to tell you how to play your game :p

You bribe the regent, and then do whatever you want. Well unless the regent for some reason has -100 relations with you and openly plots killing you.

Relations means bugger-all if you have a terrible regent. I had my character's mother take over as regent due to "court intrigue". She loved my kid unconditionally, she was his mother. She also was a cruel, nasty BITCH and most actions were blocked (ironically I could declare wars and kill prisoners, but I could not bribe people or arrange marriages). Luckily my kid was 14 when he took the throne so I only had to deal with bitchmom for 2 years. Still was the longest 2 years I ever went through. The last 5 months especially since I declared a holy war and didn't really think it through. I had this pile of land, penalties for holding too much demesne and no way to fix it until either ma died or my ruler became of-age.

"You must be new here" isn't actually an assumption, it's intended to be 100% condescending rudeness. It's just one of those phrases. At least where I come from. :p

I have over 500 hours and I'm saying now: Bribery is not a perfect solution. You've just not had the misfortune of meeting a truly douche regent and I'm slightly jealous of your luck.

Because you play as the dynasty I think there should be always be ability switch to the dynasty head, to restrict this there should some kind of representation of cadet branches, it is very common that even non-Muslims get 1K living dynasty members, that no longer is a house nor a clan, that's a tribe and because they're all your kinsmen/kinswomen they mean nothing to you, you barely have connection to them, if they would be divided to other houses it would make everything more clear "I see... This guy is from that house that was created when my grandfather landed his younger brother." instead of "Kinsman #357 you will lead my army!".

I think it ruins game play. One thing is to choose another character - none title claimant from destiny up on death to play and totally another to jump around dynasty while your character is a little guy. I think may be making childhood more eventful will help.

how about add ability for child to choose what to do like may be study, play toys - more silly events that can grow into perks. I strongly believe that choosing whom to play should be allow upon death from your dynasty but once you are that character - no body jumps.

This just will never happen. You cannot expect them to implement a feature that would flat out negate mechanics. Adding content to regencies is how it should be focused from a dev pov.

I'd like to have my time as a child give me more influence on my decisions. Right now I depend entirely upon my mentor for traits and they can completely ruin my character.

Don't get me wrong, that's supposed to happen in some ways, but I'd like to think that a child could realise that their mentor is teaching them to be an evil sadist and simply go against them if they so wished. It may require a bit more risk (likely loss of opinion with the mentor and probably piety or prestige or both) but it'd give more control to the child to not simply be fucked over by one evil mentor.

I don't really feel the need for such action, but I personally think that the player should be allowed to choose which one of the heir/pretenders he/she wants to play when their current character dies. That would be a more flexible and general system.

In a nutshell, the player shouldn't HAVE to follow the titles when his character dies, and he should be able to travel around the dynasty, but it must be set in advance (to avoid gaming the system and avoiding regency, etc.) and once you start playing a character, you have to play it until it dies.
