I am surprised how much fun I have with the game. I am planning a new city. I like planning as much as executing. I actually haven't played the game for a couple of days now, but I was just looking at maps and thinking about what I would build.
I thought I share my next upcoming city plan with you, maybe one of you might find it entertaining.
I am going to start it on Green Peaks, my rules:
1: Mods
Almost no mods (I have a couple of UI mods to make the UI smaller and transparent). I use TM: PE (of course) and unlimited resources.
2: 9 tiles only.
My machine can handle more, but I like to limit myself.
3: Natural Disasters is on
I am not sure where I will put the slider, but I guess somewhere in the lower half.
4. I will try to convert the map to a snowmap and play on that. I haven't done it before, but I think it is doable.
5: Objectives
Get 100k+ population
Get 1mil+ Currency reserves
Have a positive income (preferably 40k+ a week)
Have a traffic of 80%+
Have 0% water pollution
Have 90%+ happiness
Minimize imports as much as possible.
Get all 16 unique factories
Have a big fishing industry (as a side not, have a big IT Cluster "industry" too).
Get all three campusses to 5 stars and maintain it at that level
Get 8 out of the 9 Unique Faculties (I dislike the building "School of Environmental Studies" and I avoid building it)
Have at least 3 stadiums (one from the match day DLC, the unique building called "Stadium" and at least one campus stadium).
Get an amusement park. a city park and a zoo to max stars.
Have a huge central traffic hub (trains, busses, intercity bus and metro)
Have a huge cargo network (planes, trains, ships and automobiles) I am thinking about using 3 maybe 4 lines of parallel train tracks (probably underground).
And at the very end:
Build all 8 monuments (the Hadron Collider and Fusion Power Plant will be the last two buildings I place, which means I have to finish the game without them). I will try to place the medical center as soon as possible (I think that is the best monument in the game), but will probably place the rest at the very end. The space elevator is tricky to place because of the huge amount of traffic it creates.
6. No restrictions on:
- a. Eminent Domain (destroying zoned buildings) I will replace "old town" at some point. And overall I find the game more fun without this self inflicted restriction.
- b. Loans (with natural disasters occurring I might need loans at the beginning).
- c. Terraforming/Landscaping. I will move that small hill over and fill up the bay area to reclaim more space from the sea. I will also probably "remove" the small river in the middle of the starting tile.
- d. I like grids, this city will be built on a "grid structure".
The actual plan:
Those are the tiles I will be using.
I will move the small hill from the middle and fill up the coastline to get more buildable space.
I will create a big tourist and leisure area on the reclaimed coastline and I will try to put all of my fancy touristy unique buildings there.
Things to decide:
* Oil is scarce except for the two offshore oil patches. I might add some oil, somewhere in the middle, manually to make starting on industry a little bit more fun.
* I am thinking about using monorails as a form of transport to move the tourists around... I am not sure how I am going to do that.
* I might have to go outside the map to readjust the road network the single one highway service interchange in the middle is definitely not going to be enough. I will have to connect the two train track lines with each other (And I might upgrade the highways to four lanes instead of the normal 3).
* Once all is done I might expand to 25 tiles (and claim the "upper" 11 tiles) and try to get the population above 250k+, maybe even 600k+.
* I might build an airport with the airport DLC... but I am not sure about it.
* I might use mods to place water to create small lakes for my zoo and for my city park. The fresh water outlet does work, but I have to turn it off and on all the time.

Any comments and criticism welcome. Especially mod recommendations.

Initial setup thoughts.
