Hey,

Loving the streams and the outlook of the game sofar.. but one thing that does break my immersion is the "cluster" of ships just staying near the planet instead of actually encircling it. (ie blockading the planet and making sure the whole planet is under continuous bombardment) As it looks now there is a small slice of the planet being bombarded and then you have a big slice not being targeted (visually).

This makes the immersion that i am overtaking a planet and doing key installation bombardments / raining pure hell on the planet kind of hard.. cause it looks like the biggest part of the planet is without bombardment as it right now.

So my question is, can the way planetary bombardment / blockade be changed to visually make the ships Surround the planet in question instead of cluster up in a corner?

Cheers
Jimmi

Well, you don't necessarily use line of sight ship weaponry to bombard. There's missiles and bomber craft that can purge the unclean.
Also, unless the planet is tidally locked, it will rotate and thus provide the besiegers with new targets.

I agree that it is a bit strange: you don't understand at first that you are blockading/bombarding it.

It looks like your fleet is just parked there and I can easily imagine forgetting that it was sieging a planet and sending them elsewhere. A small animation would go a long way to make the situation clearer.

When watching the stream I just assumed they hadn't done the animations and final graphics for it.

Exactly. It actually makes perfect sense to do orbital bombardments as a cluster of ships relatively close to each other.
Their proximity helps with defending from any counterattack, and the actual "bombs", if kinetic, can take orbital paths instead of straight lines and hit basically anywhere they want. Otherwise you just wait for the right area of the planet to rotate into line of sight, it won't take that much on most habitable planets.

Sieging, on the other hand, would probably require spreading out your ships into different orbits, to cut off likely injection/ejection routes. This could certainly use a completely different animation...

I do not disagree with any of your points, it was merely my personal view. But your points about using bombs and kinetics are ofcourse vital points, but for me it would work better with another animation due to the fact that i might as has been earlier stated.. miss that im actually bombarding a planet with that fleet.

But all points are taken! :)
