I was playing earlier an inward perfection technocratic empire who was hit with a machine rebellion event. Now it was my first game where I actually faced a machine rebellion, so I was quite excited to see how it was going to go down.
So first of all, the machine spawn with around half of my planets, most of the rural production ones, which immediately plunged mineral and food well into the red, and the loss of many planets around my capital means that trade routes couldn't go through, and energy and consumer goods were also in the red. Now, this was sort of expected, and I had healthy reserves of all those resources. But this did put me on a clock since I needed to recover those rural worlds before I start losing running out of resources. And that I did with impunity with my combined 45k fleet power against the rebellion's 30k or so
But, as I started to recover my worlds, I discovered that most of my amenities, consumer goods and unity building were all gone. This meant that suddenly I had worlds with -50 amenities, -20 employment and deep in instability. This could not do, of course, so I quickly started to rebuild in these systems, until I realized that I had hit zero in mineral and still with a 200 deficit. buying only worked for a time, before I hit 0 in energy as well with a 100 deficit. Every planet that I reconquered needed 2k+ minerals to rebuild every infrastructure and the upgrade that when with it, and that can hardly be done when the machine rebellion usually leaves the player in the red in most resources. The crime and unemployment that came with the reconquest also skyrocketed my consumer good needs, which was some 300 in deficit at its peak
.
Now I eventually recovered, as luck would have it that my alloys planets remained intact, so I had a healthy 200 monthly surplus that I traded for additional minerals and it eventually stabilized my economy, but it felt like a design flaw to have all the buildings vanish. I'm guessing that since the machine empire that spawns doesn't need many of the organic buildings, the game erases them instantly. But this creates a situation where the human player simply cannot recover at times. Taking my game as an example, if the rebellion had started with a few more urban world, and ruined my alloy surplus, then I would have absolutely no way to rebuild my economy, even if I had crushed the rebellion.
I think that this could use a few revision. Maybe give the planets a modifier after de reconquest to allow faster and cheaper reconstruction? or leave the buildings and make the machine rebellion a special empire until they win the war? No matter what, I feel like the current situation could make for some very frustrating and game-ending situations and it should be looked at.
