Why were the carriers not in Pearl Harbor? Many of the history buffs will be able to tell you immediately why, hopefully now the title will make the question make sense. I can't remember off the top of my he4ad, but I believe either the Sara or the Lex will ferrying planes to Wake, Enterprise was on its way home from delivering planes to Guam, I believe; hell the British lost the Eagle and the Invincible was badly damaged, ferrying planes to Malta. The whole point of this post is that I was sorely disappointed that planes could just fly from New York to Guadalcanal, yet only have the range of 350km.

Do you think there would be a way that Paradox could make this happen, and if yes would you want something like this?

Sounds like more micro management that the AI would never be able to do.

It couldn't handle the complexity of transport ships and landing craft, and I think this would be about the same.

There's no question moving aircraft around in HoI3 was waaaayy too easy, but by the look of it we won't be ferrying aircraft in HoI4 - in the WWW, I think I recall seeing Johan assigning a new wing to a CV, and it the had a 'transferring' label (I've no idea how long this was, or whether the time it took varies by distance or circumstance).

While the detail nut in me likes the idea of manual plane ferrying, there would be a _lot_ of micro involved (particularly now that we're dealing with individual planes), and CVs weren't the only vessels that ferried aircraft. The UK had a couple of vessels that were dedicated aircraft transports, while other aircraft were shipped in crates on merchant vessels like normal cargo.

If it were possible to have different types of transports, then perhaps we could build dedicated aircraft transports, and use convoys to ship them around like troops? That way, they'd be moving on the map, be sinkable, and take sensible amounts of time to travel from place to place (but it's still largely automated, so we're not micro-ing CVs shipping aircraft all around the world). No idea if it'd be possible to mod this in though, and best guess would be that it isn't.

In the old S&T simulation 'USN' you were supposed to ferry planes from CONUS West Coast to the Pacific. I used a house rule allowing them to island-hop from Pearl to Hawaii so long as the bases weren't expanded much in size.

I agree that using plane ferries is realistic AND a massive amount of micromanagement. Would be different if you put escort carriers into a 'Transport' box sort of like the 'ASW' box that would also be nice.
