I've been reading up on the Victual Brothers/Vitalian Brotherhood (Swedish: fetaliebröder, vitaliebröder; German: Vitalienbrüder). A group of pirates who prayed on Baltic and Atlantic Shipping in the 14th century. And even though their fortress in Gotland by the Teutonic Order (I can't get the idea of how hillarious the idea of having crusaders fighting pirates out of my head!
) in 1398. Even though the Victual Brothers where crushed after this their successors, the Likedeelers came into existance. They where the remnents of the discharged seamen of the Victual Brothers continued to plunder the Baltic and Brabant, France and even as far as Spain.
I'd like to see some early pirates in Europe to represent this until the 1500's. Is this a good idea? Anythying relating to game mechanics that would make this a bad idea?
Also just for fun, would it be possible to make the Gotland revolter the Victual Brothers? Who wouldn't want to play as pirate's who's motto was "God's friends and whole world's enemies"?
