Flanker (Pilot + Gunner) and Striker (Tactics + Gunner) can be used in heavier mechs, as long as the enemy is not lighter and you have the morale to use a precison shot.

The trick will be
1) Wait for the target enemy to use its turn.
2) Move Flanker into combat range and shoot.
New Round
2) Use precision shot with the Striker (tactician iniative bonus) on the mech the flanker hit (The Flanker will now go before the enemy)
3) Shoot with the Flanker and retreat to cover (Ace Pilot: Shoot and then move)

Most mechs are having a bad time if they were hit 3 times by the same class of mechs before they can react.
This also gives you an opportunity to attack safely without the flanker being in cover.

I like Master Tactician with Bulwark on a Highlander, paired with an Ace Pilot/Bulwark pilot, preferably in another Highlander. Can generally kill or severely cripple an enemy assault before it can get a shot off, if done right.

Reserve your units, and both pilots should be entrenched/braced just in case you mis-judged the range a bit and that assault can get a shot to open.

After the enemy moves, jump the Master Tactician to a flank, and fire. For additional cheese, use Precision shot here to push your target to the "end of the line," initiative-wise.

Then move the Ace Pilot onto the other flank and fire. If you still want cheese, and didn't use Precision shot, use Vigilance here, to give the Ace Pilot +1 initiative over the target.

Next turn, Master Tactician moves in phase 2 instead of phase one, stays put and fires again, gaining guarded/entrenched from Bulwark.

Phase 1, Ace pilot fires, and depending on the situation, retreats to strike another target or re-position, or stays put and gains guarded/entrenched from Bulwark.

At SOME point during this, generally after the 2nd attack (by the Ace Pilot) the target will be on it's back from stability damage, and the next shot at least will be a called shot, if not two called shots.

Using precision shot with the Master Tactician, or Vigilance with the Ace Pilot guarantees you 4 attacks on the same target before it can move again, with at least 2 of them being called shots (3 if precision shot was used.)

If you're looking for salvage, flank and hit the legs and side torsos. If you're looking to kill quickly, don't flank, and hit CT with the called shots. 4 solid alphas into one target, with 2-3 of them being called shots to the center torso, will pop almost any assault you see before they can even react.

Have 2 teams of these guys doing this to 2 mechs at a time, and you can clear a field of assaults pretty quickly, and you have the ability to start hunting for salvage if there are any mechs you're particularly looking for on the field.

Now, is this as good as 3 Bulwark/Breaching shot assaults with a Master Tactician/Evasive movement Orion or Highlander? Maybe, maybe not, but it can definitely be pretty nasty. I like to have a pair of these guys, with two Bulwark/Breaching shot "anchors," one in a LRM boat and one in more of a mid-range build, 'cause breaching shot with multi-target does good work against guarded/entrenched, and my flankers can sometimes have the opportunity for shots into the back, which ignores guarded/entrenched altogether.
